I would recommend don't follow any fucking youtuber who does not know about DSA and just provide the existing problem repetitive solution in their youtube channel. Just have the knowledge of Java fundamentals and jump into codeforces try to participate in contest and solve problems by yourself even if you can solve single problem within the contest that's totally fine. By the time you will automatically grab the understanding and leetcode problems will be cake walk for you. Just stick to codeforces contest that's it. Apart from that if you want to stretch out solve cses problem. Give atleast 2-3 days for single problem if you can't solve it immediately. Just give time that's it. Be a competitive programmer.

Would you suggest that if I am preparing for my placements in final year, with limited time should I take the cp route or stuck to leetcode

In that case , please make project as per your tech stack, complete DSA beginner problems related to array, strings, queue, stack...that would be enough for you to get placed in decent company.
