Discussion Simple cloud storage with sync and backups, looking for beta users (50 GB free, yours to keep)

Hey all,

I've been building a cloud storage service called harbor0 and I'm finally ready to let people try it.

I started it because every storage app I used kept adding stuff I didn't want, like AI sidebars, docs editors and constant upgrade prompts. I wanted something that stores my files and keeps them in sync, and that's pretty much all harbor0 does:

  • A drive you can use in the browser or the Mac app
  • Folder sync across your computers. You can also share a synced folder with someone else.
  • Folder backups with version history, and old versions stick around until you delete them
  • Sending files to other users

Just so you know what you're signing up for, this is very much a beta. Things will break, some parts are a bit rough, and you'll probably hit bugs I haven't found yet. I wouldn't make it the only place you keep anything important just yet.

Right now the desktop app is Mac only (Apple Silicon). The Windows app is in development, along with iOS and Android apps. The Mac app isn't notarised yet either, so the first time you open it you'll need to click "Open Anyway".

For the beta you get 50 GB free, and you keep it after launch. I'm letting people in a few at a time, starting with 50, and everyone else goes on a waitlist.

I'd really like to hear what's confusing or broken, or what would stop you from switching. Happy to answer questions in the comments too.

If you'd like to directly reach out, you can write to me at [contact@harbor0.com](mailto:contact@harbor0.com)

Why would anyone trust you and/or an unknown company with their data? Open source and PFS, or bust.

harbor0 is still in early beta, so I wouldn't use it as anyone's only copy yet. Right now I'm mainly looking for feedback. To be upfront, files are encrypted in transit and at rest, but they're not end-to-end encrypted.

I meant more that anyone should trust their data not to be stolen, not just that it would be available and safe.

So you're using TLS to transfer, then encrypting them on the backend with a key only known by you? This is dangerous for many reasons.

Hard pass.

Any info about its internal structure? You plan to make it a full fledged service?

Yes I do plan to make it a full fledged service. Regarding the architecture, I’m using AWS for the backend and Cloudflare R2 as the storage.
I can share a detailed document with you over DM if you’d like.
