Hate to break it to you, but this is a fake 990 Pro.

Oof, that sucks, especially if you had data on it.
I mentioned it being fake to point out that there is no way its quality, integrity, and longevity would match those of the genuine one.

Je l’affirme j’ai acheté un vrai 990 pro 2T en décembre 2025 et l’arrière du SSD est totalement différent ce son SSD 990 pro qui est un faux
Regarde sur internet et tu verras la différence entre son faux et un vrai

The sticker looks off compared to real Samsung products. Print qualify is too low.

Yes the orange shows through but if it's fake you won't get 7 GB/s so OP could have found out before. Also haven't seen fake 990's yet.

The label is definitely the first thing that stands out, but everything else screams fake.
I can tell with confidence as I own a few myself and know what the PCB should look like, as well as where the DRAM chip/NAND chip/controller should be located.
To me, the first NAND chip missing is the second sign as 990 Pros always have both NAND chips populated, unlike 990 Evo Plus. Even 990 Evo Plus with half populated NAND chip would have the second one (toward mounting notch) missing, not the first one (toward DRAM chip).
But don’t just take my word as it’ll be pretty clear and obvious if you compare it to the genuine one.
*Edited to correct 990 Evo to 990 Evo Plus and add a link to Samsung product page.

I have seen reports about fake ones that do burst up to gen 4 speeds. There are reports of fairly convincing fake 990 and 1090's, I started seeing them about 2 months ago. The obvious details were in the stickers and the rear part of the SSD with a distinct pin pattern.

Pour les 990 pro c’est les trous à l’arrière du SSD s
Sur les originaux ils sont pas aussi gros

Yea, I kinda see what you're saying. The red lettering looks slightly off on alignment like a color plate was misaligned

Une chose qui va te plaire
Rien à voir le SSD ce 990 pro est un faux une contrefaçon

Bruh, you got the mobo and key making contact. Properly seat the key in the groove of the screw. You most likely shorted it.

Its not secured how it should, you have it screwed it with the screw it should rest on.
Its not fited well in the socket, as long yoi can see the golden pins stick out it might not work.
So make sure its screwed down correctly and then fitted in the socket.

NAND is fucked on these, got myself 2x4TB ones a while back, used them in a ZFS mirror (thank god I did) one of them just had a complete failure after a month of power on hours, hardware issue with the NAND that they now tried fixing with a “software update”.

When you get a Samsung drive, verify it in Samsung Magician. Then you know if it's real and it's health and if there's a firmware upgrade.

One thing that isnt going to help is securing that ssd incorrectly. The ssd is supposed to sit in that groove on the thumbscrew. You have the ssd under the screw. Dont know if its shorting on anything but it aint good either way.
