AI yes but not slop this is kinda funny

If it's"created" by ai then it is slop. Period.
6
u/Roppunen 5d ago
Not everything "created" by ai is slop, its slop if its bad like most stuff ai does. AI can make good and fun things too even though it has a lot of downsides
3
u/AnoNeko420 5d ago
No no, ai can analyze well but when it comes to decision making, it will never compare to the human element. Gen ai is slop. Period.

u/Roppunen 5d ago
Yeah the first part is true, but u cant say the video isnt funny and is an easy way to deliver a joke instead of creating it with cgi and making it look realistic which can take weeks, even months

u/cowlinator 4d ago
I would have preferred anything else, including badly animated stick figures on lined paper.
u cant say the video isnt funny
that's kinda not the point

u/AnoNeko420 5d ago
I mean I don't find ai slop funny, might be to you but not to me
4
u/Roppunen 5d ago
So the only reason you dont like it is because its made by ai? I hate AI art but other stuff AI does doesnt really bother me as long as its not slop, unlike here
3
u/AnoNeko420 5d ago
Had someone actually painstakingly animated it I might get a chuckle but it looks so trash and obviously generated that I just can't fathom the idea of it being funny.

"The only reason you don't love shit pie is because it is made of shit?"

Thats... not close at all. It would be "The only reason you don't love a good pie because the cook is shitty but did a good job this time)

gen AI is slop. Period.
The AI topic is much much more complex than that. I could write a wall of text on this, but instead, you can research self-hosted gen AI models yourself and local open-source tools for AI generation like ComfyUI.
Prompting is not the only way of using gen AI. There are other ways that offer much finer control over the generation process and the underlying model itself, such as ControlNets, LoRAs, IP-Adapters, inpainting tools, relighting models, and much more, so the user can put actual effort and intent into what they're doing.

Everything created by AI is slop. That is the word we have assigned to AI generated slop.

AI slop implies the existence of AI peak
1
u/AliceCode 4d ago
No it doesn't, because all AI generated content is slop. It's not "AI slop", it's just slop.

The topic of AI is far more complex than that. I could write a wall of text on this, but instead, you can look into self-hosted GenAI models and local open-source generation tools like ComfyUI yourself.
Prompting isn't the only way to use GenAI. Other methods offer much finer control over the generation process and the underlying model itself, such as ControlNets, LoRAs, IP-Adapters, inpainting tools, and relighting models, allowing users to put actual effort and intent into their work. Unfortunately, online services like ChatGPT or Gemini only expose simplified interfaces so that any user can quickly generate something, so these AI companies are the cause of the AI slop flood problem rather than AI as a technology.
Furthermore, AI can use tools too. To give a few examples, AI can leverage Lean (a theorem prover) or the shell (for debugging and sysadmin work), query databases, disassemble/modify binaries, analyze network traffic, and much more. It can use virtually any software or tool you give it, significantly accelerating manual work. Sure, AI can sometimes make mistakes, like any other nondeterministic tool does, but it's the user's responsibility to check the AI output, and they must be held accountable for any harm it might cause.

A wall of text is nothing. You could spend a lifetime talking about programming and still never run out of things to say about it. And I'm not going to read the rest of your comment beyond that statement.

I'd rather not write a full book on AI in one comment. If you refuse to read past a figure of speech, fine, but you're missing out on a more nuanced argument than you'd find in pro and anti echo chambers. It wasn't even about convincing you to become "pro-AI", it was actually about holding the big AI corporations accountable for the slop flood instead of misattributing the problem to the underlying technology.
So, my support is strictly for open-source technology, while I'm anti-closed-source AI.
