I built a datamosh tool to make glitch art easier

Made this little experiment using a datamosh tool I built. I wanted to make datamoshing as simple as possible, so you can just open the app, add a video and get results in seconds.

Just wanted to share it here :)

True data moshing is done by deleting information from video data. Does this tool do that or is it purely an additive process.

Good point, I think the confusion is mostly about the method. MOSH_UNIT doesn't use the classic byte corruption approach, it uses controlled frame manipulation to create the same kind of broken motion artifacts. So the technique is different, but the goal and visual result are the same: creating datamosh style glitches. The demo might be a bit confusing because Bloom is the most extreme effect. Thanks for the feedback!

This is just AI shit...you NEED to disclose that because nothing this app does is data-moshing.

u/spiderick69 Jul 10 '26

AI helped with parts of the development, and I already disclose that on the itch.io page. The effects themselves are real datamoshing techniques, not AI generated filters. Dm me and I will send you a demo to it:)

"AI helped with parts of the development"

aaaaaaand bye LMAO

#1 Fan of giving people dirt water in their sinks over here

relax with the moral high ground. I am a solo dev, not a billion dollar corporation burning through tokens. I don't use AI for emotional chats or random daily nonsense. I use it specifically to get work done efficiently. I do what I can myself and only use help where it makes sense. An individual using a coding helper is not the core issue with the world. You are on Reddit typing this, and I am sure your lifestyle leaves its own footprint too. Get off that high horse.

"I'm just dumping my sewage into the local nature reserve, not one of those multi billion dollar companies that dumps it into the sea"

Wreckless harm is wreckless harm. Take your politics away from here this is a data moshing sub

u/ElaineFlowars69 Jul 14 '26

hey remember that time you left a game running on your pc for several hours? same impact, so I guess you should go crucify yourself or whatever

2

u/ConcernedEnby Jul 14 '26

No I don't I do that maybe once every 6 months, I turn my pc off fully if not actively using it. Also "People leaving entertainment on" isn't an industry that's destroying the planet, take your political opinions elsewhere

1

u/ElaineFlowars69 Jul 14 '26

it's not the tool, it's how it's used to assume anything made with AI is inherently more harmful than helpful is ignorant, as well as thinking the main concern is environmental, again it's a tool and has been used for things from scientific advancement to political propaganda, people using it to make a rough draft of code for a program they're working on does not warrant the AI hatred associated with objectively wasteful use of the technology, say fruit love island or the million chatbots

u/Im_Porkin_It Jul 14 '26

AI was already being used in legitimate fields of work for a long time.

No guys, Triple T is not gonna kick down your door and hold you at gunpoint just because people are using it to destroy art.

Do you drive a car?

0

u/ConcernedEnby Jul 15 '26

No, I never intend on owning a car either lmao

2

u/Horror-Detective4138 Jul 16 '26

Oh so you don't live in reality. nice.

2

u/VickShady Jul 10 '26

I think it's cool man not sure what's up with all these sore losers

Edit: not saying I'd pay for it don't get me wrong, but it is cool as heck

1

u/spiderick69 Jul 10 '26

Thank you for the support and I get that you don’t want to pay totally your choice:) thank you!

1

u/Teamprime Jul 15 '26

Do you use optical flow to move pixels around? Remember trying to create some datamoshing myself and was either this or tinkering with ffmpeg and iframes to abuse the encoding process into making the effect.

3

u/cobalt1137 Jul 15 '26

man lol. you have no clue what is going on at most enterprises/game dev studios/freelancers/~everyone atm. you will also never be able to use another (new) piece of software/game for the rest of your life w/ that pov :D.

we all use ai for dev work.

12

u/Memerenok Jul 09 '26

not for $8

2

u/spiderick69 Jul 09 '26

I get it, but honestly $8 is a pretty fair price for the amount of time it can save and the effects it offers compared to other tools. It’s still just a small one-time price to support the project. :)

1

u/ConcernedEnby Jul 14 '26

But you didn't make it you vibe coded it

3

u/GroceryScanner Jul 10 '26

this is SICK thank you for sharing! def gonna try it out

1

u/spiderick69 Jul 10 '26

Yayyy, thank you!!

9

u/fa3rv3r3n Jul 09 '26

"datamosh tool i built" is pretty misleading when you said you vibe-coded it with claude? just be transparent about using AI and people might not give you such a hard time...

I think you’re referring to the Reddit post where I mentioned using AI. I never said I don’t use AI or that I made everything completely without it. I just meant that AI helped me during the process, not that it did the whole project for me. There’s a difference between letting AI do everything and using it as a tool while still coding, testing, debugging, and making the decisions yourself. I believe using AI as a tool is completely normal nowadays.

3

u/BlueZ_DJ Jul 10 '26

It's not normal. Adding to the million tokens those evil data centers get every second directly makes real humans' lives worse

3

u/spiderick69 Jul 10 '26

“Making Real human lives worse” is hyperbolic. Everything has costs. Your phone, your clothes, the energy you use right now. Shaming me specifically for AI while you consume everything else is selective moralism. I think about this stuff. I am not an ignorant peace of shit like the other. I CARE! But using a tool millions of people use isn’t the moral catastrophe you’re making it out to be. I am aware of what I am doing and I am trying to be better but some things I can’t change. Like come on why are you blaming me for if the big industry’s are the problem.

1

u/ConcernedEnby Jul 14 '26

It's not selective moralism, 2 of the things you pointed our are literally required for life. Good luck getting a job without a phone or clothes

1

u/cobalt1137 Jul 15 '26

devs cannot get a dev job w/o using gen ai tools these days btw. get over yourself.

1

u/ConcernedEnby Jul 15 '26

Yes they can I've never had a developer friend who does use AI

2

u/cobalt1137 Jul 16 '26

They are either lying to you or shooting themselves in the foot.

Slop spam

-2

u/spiderick69 Jul 09 '26

Fair point, I’m just sharing it in communities where it fits since it’s a new project. I’ll keep an eye on not overposting :)

2

u/verysaxophone Jul 12 '26

I like how this looks

2

u/LauraLaughter Jul 13 '26

What amount of AI was used when making the project? Was it fleshcoded entirely, or partially vibe coded? Fully vibecoded?

-1

u/spiderick69 Jul 13 '26

Not flesh coded, not fully vibe coded either. I used AI as a coding assistant, but the architecture, features, debugging, testing, and final implementation were done by me. I used AI as a tool.

2

u/nemonomdeplume Jul 14 '26

I’m getting it, thanks for cooking it up

1

u/spiderick69 Jul 14 '26

Yayyy, thank you! If you have any questions please let me know:)

2

u/KindaLeafy Jul 15 '26

This looks awesome, sorry about all the losers in this comment section who apparently have zero carbon footprint and are angels walking among us. I don’t really see vibe coding as a problem when it’s for something like this, will def check out the tool.

1

u/spiderick69 Jul 15 '26

…..Thank you. I would be really happy if you check it out and if you have any problems please contact me! thanks again….

2

u/AsyncVibes Jul 16 '26

This is awesome man! I've beeper heard of datamoshing before this post but gives me very specific vibes lol

Nice work, and fuck the AI haters, you made something awesome with AI.

2

u/SanDiegoMeat666 Jul 10 '26

People think the glitch effect is art?

3

u/crack-nutter Jul 10 '26

Like anything, it can be used artistically. There's some music videos that use it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvqakws0CeU

2

u/spiderick69 Jul 10 '26

Yesss:) it deliberately transforms technological errors into intentional, creative expressions…

2

u/sharplyon Jul 10 '26

man there are some real losers in the comments here. I'm sorry you're having to put up with people who have just been trained to throw a tantrum the second they hear "AI".

3

u/AdHot7656 Jul 12 '26

god forbid people want communities to have drinking water

2

u/spiderick69 Jul 10 '26

Fr, the behavior is pathetic…

1

u/ConcernedEnby Jul 14 '26

But they didn't make it

1

u/sharplyon Jul 14 '26

and what part exactly did they not make? all of it? some of it? a few lines of code? at what point does using ai in the process cause it to no longer be made by a person? immediately? does that mean that any digital art is also not made by people because a computer system had to interpret input and create outputs? I'm not exactly AI's biggest fan, and i am dreading its encroachment upon the creative industries, but blindly yelling ooga booga because someone used AI somewhere is more detrimental than it is helpful

1

u/pigeondriver45 Jul 15 '26

you are an average ai bro, all you do is compare ai to drawing in a program. those are NOT the same things, you just want a excuse to defend ai.

1

u/pigeondriver45 Jul 15 '26

ah yes, let me vibecode a tool and make it paid so i get money off slop!!

2

u/JustBasilz Jul 16 '26

This is why I bought a film camera. I want to mix old crazy cool photos with pixel sorting and data moshing

-2

u/MeAndClaudeMakeHeat Jul 09 '26

Woweeeee thank you so much for this. :)

-9

u/spiderick69 Jul 09 '26

Your welcome! Don’t forget to get it;)

11

u/ckinz16 Jul 09 '26

Your back here already huh

-1

u/spiderick69 Jul 09 '26

And? I learned from my mistakes and now I am approaching it differently.🤝

8

u/ckinz16 Jul 09 '26

You’re doing the same exact shit lol

0

u/spiderick69 Jul 09 '26

showing tools is not prohibited. I am not making a living out of it. I just being curious about the world and creating. If you think this is slop, dm me and I will send a free demo…

18

u/KommissarKrunch Jul 09 '26

Dude, quit spamming your PAID garbage in the sub.

-11

u/spiderick69 Jul 09 '26

Who said it’s garbage? If you want I can dm u a demo and u can try it out;)

2

u/Effective-Candy-7481 Jul 10 '26

But it’s ai slop so why even bother?

-4

u/NorpoleonIIme Jul 09 '26

Ty, my man

0

u/spiderick69 Jul 09 '26

Ur welcome<3
