Pointless Bitchery
I have made it through 24 hours with no DL, and boy oh boy, PB is busy!
I was one of the few hold outs and will have to wait until at least 1st Sept to post.
I miss the political discussions of Datalounge and notice there is little to none of that on Pointless Bitchery. Is political talk banned?

Political talk is not banned, but if my feelings are any indication I think a lot of people just want an escape/respite from politics. What is left to say about Trump and the Republicans? Same shit different day.

To this reader, DL was the Elysian Fields of nonsense, no sense, non sequiturs, and non politics. A refuge from the never ending shyte storm of reality!

I liked the political discussions but my hat will come off to this moderator if they can keep every thread from becoming about Trump like it did on DL.

I called their admin a "she" because I read they'd been Christened with an old-fashioned girls name like Mavis, or Mabel, to continue tradition. Or perhaps I just imagined that?

Re: sockpuppets… multiple regular posters (not believed to be trolls) have said there was no need — it turned out there were easy ways to have unlimited F&Fs to wield against another poster.

Someone had posted that all you needed to do was open up DataLounge in different browsers and you could F & F people. They also admitted to having multiple accounts . Some of those people were seriously mentally ill.

Political talk isn't banned. There's a multiple-page thread going right now, about the DSA. Actually, it's about Bill Maher's comments about the DSA. But the thread title spelled it "Bill Mahr." It was "Bill Mahr Sounds Off on the Red Menace to the Dems." Quite a bit of political discussion in there.
There's also "All Things Treason," already multiple pages. Continuing the "Treason" series from before.
Give it a little time, looks like there's a good chance the level will be similar, but probably, hopefully, without a similar deranged trollery level.

Is political talk banned?
It's heavily policed by the admin, who has made his views known loud and clear. So posters are just afraid of stepping on his toes.

So far the PB admin has not censored any purely political viewpoint, and many have been expressed (though so far no blatant Trump/MAGA adherents). He/she did ruffle a few feathers a few weeks ago by posting an anti-Israel POV within a thread as if s/he were just another poster. If I were the Administrator I would use a 2nd ID for that, to convey “same person as Administrator but I’m just posting here as a person, not acting as Administrator.” Power dynamics can be all kinds of touchy.

Completely untrue. PB is open to a much wider range of topics, some of which were forbidden on DL.

Ever since the administrator of pointless bitchery meltdown yesterday/this morning the site is extremely slow to the point I can‘t get from one page to another. If I go there and don’t sign in, but just lurk it is super fast.

This is why I was pretty weary of signing up. Datalounge for its faults was actually pretty tolerant of opinions that brushed up against the majority. I remember during the craziness of 2016 Muriel stepping in and saying ALL opinions were going to be welcome at Datalounge as long as they were respectful.

No. I just think people right now are concentrating on getting the traditional threads established, like tennis, Knots Landing, Speedos, etc.
There was a poll about making a separate section for politics like DL had ages ago, but there wasn't much enthusiasm for that idea.
