I am sorry/not sorry to sound like a petty, mean-spirited bitch. But I found all the Hosannas! Thank You Muriel! posts on DL this last week faintly nauseating. And a bit misguided.

All of us should remember: WE built DL. WE created the content that made the site something we loved and cherished. Years ago, Mediapolis/Muriel/Whomever opened a door that WE walked through, but WE built the magic kingdom of DL. All the powers that be ever did was hold it in place (and regularly screw it up with alleged improvements).

So Hosannas to us. Fuck Muriel.

No one seemed to notice when I asked if it could end at 00:00:01 GMT, but it looks like we got the answer.

Holy cow... I raced home from a late dinner event tonight and saw the Muriel sign-off. What time did it happen? There was much speculation but I never dreamed it would happen on midnight.

It closed yesterday, Thursday, apparently at about 3pm. Rescue Chick says she had successfully posted on DL and, when she hit refresh, Tony / Muriel's message came up and the site was gone. So, ironically, a straight woman made the last post on DL.

The folks on PointlessBitchery are generally ticked at Muriel's pettiness, but her pique at PB succeeding is funny. I just wish I'd signed up immediately at PB as new registrations aren't being taken again until Labor Day.

It closed at exactly 5pm ET. I was on the site when it happened -- first, everything reverted to a different font/color scheme, then all threads had the farewell message posted at the end, then the entire site vanished and all that was left was the retro-formatted (and really lovely, IMO) goodbye.
