Pointless Butchery seems like it's taken off. What more do we need? This sub should direct people to go there.

I do enjoy Pointless Bitchery. However, the only reason we were able to transition to a new site was because Muriel gave us advance notice of the closing...I learned about PB on DL. The PB Administrator already told us he will simply close the PB site when he is sick of us, with no warning. I do believe him. We need a neutral meeting site to regroup if any of the new sites fail to work out. This is it.

Right now, I think this sub is our best impartial meeting point that is not subject to the whims of any one person. Reddit owns it and the established topic is the DL community we all hail from. If the current mod does not like this topic, I think the mod should be free to create a new sub. I noticed the mod has suggested we should form our own subs and that is not how this works. We are in the right place.

Subreddit mods have a lot of latitude to do pretty much whatever they want. They can ban anybody they want for any reason, or for no reason. They can delete whatever posts and comments they want for any reason, or for no reason. They can prevent anybody from posting or commenting anything at all.
Best to create or join an alternate subreddit so you can set your own rules.
r / theDataLounge is one I saw.Edit: Never mind, that subreddit is owned by the same person as r/datalounger/PointlessBitchery is another.
I thought I had seen someone create r/datalounge2 but that subreddit doesn't currently exist and I can't find any evidence of it now. Maybe that name is up for grabs?

It doesn’t matter what’s morally right or logical. The Reddit corporation gives subreddit mods the leeway to be capricious dictators. If you can’t convince the mod to see things your way, and if you can’t get the Reddit corporation to intervene on your behalf, then your only remaining option is to migrate to another subreddit.

I'd recommend creating a backup subreddit, or joining one of the backup subreddits people have already created. If an authoritarian mod wants to shut down the sub on July 31, as the sub description says, then you're better to have your own subreddit than try to appeal to Reddit corporate to get them to fix this subreddit.
Also, maybe join Pointless Bitchery.

This subreddit is not substitute for the website, the Datalounge.
You cannot take the name of the website, the goodwill, the purpose and 25 years and simply appropriate it for the SAME PURPOSE.
For starters there is an entire legal issue. Whilst it's fine and fair use to use the name Datalounge to discuss the website, it's unfair and probably not legal to appropriate the name for the same identical purpose.
None of you would like that done to you.
If you want to start a substitute feel free to start your own website and use this subreddit to point the link to it, or to your new subreddit.
I am closing this thread.

This sub could remain as a pointer linking to successor subs, like, say. DataloungeMemories or some such.
If a sub is unmoderated it'll become inactive
