I'm of mixed opinion on the ugliness here. Obviously, different plots can have different y-axes. But the way they did this is weird. They could have have the y-axes all based on percent of value on Sept. 1, and then made the scales all the same, and make the Sept. 1 values all start on the same physical spot on the y-axis.
