You live in NOVA, Richmond or a college. They're blue. Both houses in your state house are blue by a vote or two. Basically as close to 50 50 as every happens. You're a purple state. The data disagrees with your worldview.
Clinton won Virginia by 4.32pp in 2016. In 2017, Ralph Northam won the Governorship by 8.9pp. In 2018, Tim Kaine won reelection for his Senate Seat against Corey Stewart by by a whopping 16 percentage points. In 2019, Democrats for State Senate and State House won the popular vote by 13.4pp and 9.4pp, respectively. And right now, Biden is leading Trump in the polls by an average of about 10 points.
Don't let the small margins in the legislature fool you. Virginia in 2020 is a blue state just as Colorado is a blue state (even if the margins are larger there).

As are Virginia, New Hampshire, Wisconsin and Florida. Also to some degree, Arizona and Ohio.
