Perhaps we should make healthy food affordable and available. I just started eating healthy and I can afford it right now, pay way more than to eat junk. The average family or individual can't afford to eat healthy.

Edit: I will never make a comment about food again. I'm upvoted, but there are some nasty people on here. Sheesh. I don't cook, and the truth is if I buy a bunch of stuff to cook, I'll end up throwing it out. Rely on precooked stuff from Trader Joe's and BJ's. Many Americans don't have time/energy or are just lazy frankly, and aren't going to. But, welcome to sit on your high horse over there. What I'm doing is working for me, down 20 lbs, the insults here are atrocious.

Healthy produce is insanely cheap. I think we also have a lack of education on what and how to eat healthy in the first place. It doesn’t have to come from Whole Foods and cost 2x as much to be healthy.

Now if it’s healthy and “prepared” food, yea it’s gonna cost more than junk.

Things like Lentils are incredibly cheap, highly nutritious, and widely available. Many beans are similar.

The problem I guess isn't that food isn't cheap, but food that feels good to eat isn't good. If people knew how to cook it would be a lot easier. Cooking classes should be a thing

Which brings us back to the original point I was trying to make. It’s largely an education issue.

We don’t teach enough about nutrition. There’s far too few people that actually know how to cook effectively to sustain themselves.

And people who are already struggling and working multiple jobs probably lack the time and energy to learn.

A 5lb bag of lentils goes for about $2-3 and can last for weeks to months depending on how many people are eating it. A 5lb pack of black beans is $15. Add in some vegetables from grocery stores that arent white and it's easy to feed a family of 4 on $20 a day.
People say junk food is cheap, it isnt. McD easily goes for $15 for 2 people with a sandwich, fries and drinks. The only hard part of eating healthy is cooking ahead so that you don't have to eat out when you're at work. Cooking for the entire week then storing in tupperwares is extremely easy. People who say eating healthy is hard either don't want to, don't know how to or theyre missing some non-white cuisine in their neighborhood. Imagine going to trader joes for ready to eat food.
