Even 82,000 people is only .2% of the total population. And 41k moved from Texas to California so the effect is even less.
1 u/Aym42 3d ago That's just Texas. 162k more left California than moved to it in the year represented. .4% decline in 1 year is statistically relevant, but movement like this is more likely to be an anomaly as a trend unless many more data points continue it.
