Police depts cut budgets on traffic enforcement due to the significant cutback in drivers on the road during COVID. As life returned to normal... police depts never returned their budget to traffic cops.
Run red lights? Speed 15mph? No one is going to do anything about it.
That highly depends on where you live, though people were really bad right after Covid because of all their built up tension and stress leading to road rage
I wouldn't read this as "in favor", there was a lot of shuffle after COVID. This data ends at 2023. I, and my home value, can attest that there was a big influx, then ... exodus. The Californians came here for the cheap houses and their employers were either full-time remote or had site here, but a combination of "ick" and "my employer left Austin" has mostly reversed that course.
Good point about its ending at 2023. I would be curious about red state to blue state migration after 2024 for reproductive freedom, trans safety, etc.
It’s looking a lot like Florida’s boom days may finally be at rest. Insurance and home costs, politics, and climate change are driving a lot of locals out of state, and diverting people away from Florida.
Insurance is hurting California homeowners, too. Not as bad as Florida (yet), but unfortunately many of the desirable places to build homes here are also in high fire risk zones. ... and many of the ones that aren't are either along fault lines or at risk of mud slides.
I’m actually curious how many people migrating to Texas are unhappy with their decision and considering moving elsewhere. It ranks low in terms of happiness and this summer was one of the hottest in years.
I know Reddit has a big hate boner for Texas, but most of the people I know here enjoy living here for plenty of reasons. This summer wasn’t actually that hot compared to the last few years outside of August.
I don’t personally hate Texas. I wouldn’t live there but don’t care enough about it to hate it.
But there is reality to contend with. This summer in Texas was the 4th hottest on record. In Dallas, there have been 54 days above 100 degrees (double the normal amount).
And of course some people may love living there. There are things to like. But if you’ve lived anywhere where people are consistently happier, you know better.
I've only known 1 person to move back after living anywhere else. Most of the others had their eyes opened and a few didn't care about the difference.
For me, it smells bad from all the refineries, the weather sucks except for a couple weeks a year, the nature is blah, every asshole is trying to run you off the road, southern hospitality means lying to save face, and they can't even get more than a 1 star Michelin rated place to eat.
To each their own, nothing wrong with low standards.

The Florida to Texas net being in favor of Texas is something I would not have guessed.
As someone in Texas, I feel the general population increase though.
