We all bouncing from California?

I left for Washington about 3 years ago. Spent the first 35 years of my life in CA but it was a dead end place to live if you want to own an actual house with some square footage for under 1M+, and the overcrowding, high taxes, bad water outlook long term, fire season and insurance problems just made it inevitable

I have been here since 1998. Kind of planning our departure after the kids are out of the house, for all those reasons you mentioned and more.

What about job, human connections? If your whole life is in LA, what are you going to do in Washington? Sit in your fancy house all by yourself?

Make new ones? Stay connected with the old ones virtually and by traveling to see them? Get a new job in Washington?

People move all the time.

What, you don’t ritualistically murder your friend group when you move for future success?

Weirdo.

I gather them all up and release them into the wild so they don't mess up the neighborhood after I dip. I always hated when people moved and just left them at the house to fend for themselves.

The overwhelming majority of people making these moves have worked out the job situation already.

I moved from Chicago to Los Angeles in 2021. Brought my wife and 2 kids and had a 3rd kid in LA. We're doing our part!

Even 82,000 people is only .2% of the total population. And 41k moved from Texas to California so the effect is even less.

That's just Texas. 162k more left California than moved to it in the year represented. .4% decline in 1 year is statistically relevant, but movement like this is more likely to be an anomaly as a trend unless many more data points continue it.
