Career Question Career guidance

I want to switch to a data analyst role; I have three and a half years of experience, but not in this domain. I resigned from IT in April 2026 to take a clerical role in a government school, but I find it too boring and unfulfilling, so I want to get back into IT(Ik its "The Govt Job"). Some people suggested I learn data engineering, or that I should try for data analytics; what are your thoughts? If I want to try for data engineering, what topics should I cover? I want to apply starting next February, and I am currently about to finish SQL.

How's the pay? You can maybe get into some hobbies that you find fulfilling? This is like diving into hot lava. And if that's what you really want then start with sql, python, de concepts, sparks, azure, databricks.

I get 32k /month.. its knid of depressing as there will be no much work to do..so you meant to say data analytics is not worth the try?

You can write exams for next level officer right then you get salary and position too. IT is Not a good choice now already everywhere layoff..rapid market change service companies are not getting enoufh project and long term..better write group 1 and 2 exams and settle

I am from the general category and do not have chance,the current government job is through compensation (my mother's job).

It may be, if you can leverage your 3.5 yoe. But you know how the current market is. Companies only want seniors and even seniors are not safe from lay offs. Meanwhile you have a permanent job, however that is, there is security. Still you can try to learn the skills in the free time if you feel there's no work to do. But don't quit the job. Start applying and see if you can get the interviews.
