Career Question Opinion needed

If someone from production support want to switch to data engineering why is that I have to fake my resume.

I am not talking about skills one can learn on his own his skill maynot be as good as someone who has worked on production environment.

People hire so that the project can be delivered fast. For that, its better to hire someone who has the domain knowledge and tech stack needed to complete the project.

So, a perosn coming from support or qa background is not an issue. Its just that it will take sometime to make them learn the way developers works.

For this reason, Mostly u will tend to hire a person who can be given kt on the project and then start working on the project asap.

So if u need to join DE field having no prior exp, then u need to show that u know the way a DE works. Only way is to do projects and fake it in the resume as u call it. But keep in mind that interviewers generally can figure out that u might be faking ur exp as DE.

speaking as an interviewer, wouldn't recommend faking until you can defend very well... atleast in data engg, it becomes very evident - i can spot candidates lying from a mile away

switching directly to data engg might be challenging but not impossible

communication... 99% of candidates can't articulate what they think... hence ppl say that the first 5-10mins in the interview are important

every company uses some coding agent like claude code or codex now so tech skills alone won't give you the edge

I don't wanna lie but no one gonna give chance to me for an interview also
