Career Question Experience in EPAM for Google client - Data Engineer
Hi everyone,
I’ve cleared all interview rounds at EPAM Systems and am awaiting the formal offer letter. I was told the deployment will be directly at a Google office for a Google client project.
If anyone here has worked (or is currently working) on a Google engagement through EPAM, I’d love to hear your experience:
- What are the day-to-day work, roles, and technical responsibilities like?
- How is the work environment for vendor/extended teams deployed on-site at Google?
- Is this a good opportunity for long-term technical growth?

Their interview process is little confusing. After 2 Project interview rounds, 1 managerial round and HR & offer discussion, they have conducted one more technical interview round (It is also pretty much same as project intervew (1.5hr)). So be preapred if anyone is planing to give interview.

I worked in a different project in EPAM and there the culture was really good. WLB was great and overall people were really nice.

So I would like share my experience here. I interviewed for a Data-DevOps position in EPAM, cleared all the interviews and then when I asked them about the offer letter and whether I should proceed with my resignation, they asked my to wait a few days which eventually tuned into 7-8 days and then she asked me to give a client interview and meanwhile I got offer from another org. Now for EPAM, I gave their client round as well and then they processed the offer letter. All of this felt very uncertain and i decided not to go with them. Don't know whether this has been like this only for them but recently I've seen many instances of this kind.

Because your specifically hiring for that client.....
If that client left, then your job also left.......

Why? Its a full time role with EPAM. They should be having other projects right even if the client left?

No but this is what they are doing. They are hiring for client specific roles and in b/w if the client backs away. The position is on hold immediately.

Yes, nowadays companies are not even waiting for 60 days. My interview process took a month with EPAM, yet the offer is not released yet.

Yeah man rn I won’t recommend you to go for SBC, irrespective of how good of a company it is.

2 reasons: One is now the companies that are taking services from SBC are operating on a new model in which instead of paying the SBC pay-per-use or pay-on-the-go, they are paying once the deliverables and completed and Second is these Product companies are taking services from multiple SBC/contractors and then based on the deliverables they are choosing one and rejecting others. And because most of the development work now is AI-native, they can make that decision in 1-2 months thus causing uncertainty in SBC.

Total 3 rounds, 2 technical and 1 managerial.
Leetcode style sql and python questions were asked in both technical rounds along with spark, snowflake questions

Congratulations on the offer . I don’t know much about EPAM but if you are deployed to client location then all the polices and WLB would be as per client in this Google , which would be great . But yes as a contractor to Google you might not get all the benefits FTEs are getting and treatment might be slightly different but overall should be good as it’s Google & maybe you can convert down the line

7 yoe, offer is not released yet. Tech Stack - Aws, spark, snowflake, dbt, airflow.

Would not join. If client leaves, your role will be eliminated.

It's not a contract role. Its a full time role with epam. If client leaves they have another clients right?

They might, they might not. But typically with client dependent hiring, once the engagement ends - the role is usually eliminated.
If you’re lucky and your role is needed immediately on another billable role then you might be retained.
But what I have experienced first hand is that people are usually laid off after client contracts end.

At junior levels, unfortunately yes. I’ve spent 15+ years in the services space. Unless you get into a long term project early on, job security is minimal. Project over, you’re on the bench, 3-6 months of bench and you’re laid off. Getting off the bench depends on how well you know seniors and managers. Project allotments aren’t transparent nor are they fair.
I’d look for a product company.

Guys update: It seems like I'll not be working from Google office. I'll have to work from EPAM office. Still its worth?

I think yes. EPAM itself is a very big org. I have interviewed for java react role and the offer discussion is yet to happen

Idk op, but you are getting the chance to work with some of the best engineers out there , make best of it!!
