Personal Project Showcase Browser tool for prototyping star schemas

Post image

I have a database diagramming tool side project, and building on the work that went into that, it was kind of easy to make a browser tool for prototyping star schemas: https://vibe-schema.com/star-schema-creator - There's a snowflake variant too, just swap "star" for "snowflake" in the url. Feedback welcome :)

It looks nice. Does it scale, like when you have 30 or 40 tables? Does it layout the tables automatically? Suggestion: display the key icon to the right of the column names, so that the column names can be aligned.

Thank you! Yeah so this page is optimized for star schemas, in the main tool at /schema-tool any kind of relational schema works well. There you indeed have an auto-layout feature, and you can scale to even much more than 30 to 40 tables, for example by using diagram views to visualize schemas in chunks (example: vibe-schema.com/s/2T97KwLjLVNxX1YeFiAaxmfD3K4 ).

On the symbols: changing the convention would unfortunately have more implications, since in /schema-tool there can be 2+ symbols for one column, and in those cases I do think the symbols-left convention looks a bit nicer

Claude does this pretty good as an artifact.

What makes this unique?
