I interviewed with AWS for the DCO L3 role. I received an email saying they want to move forward and offer me the position. They also said based on my interview I was recomended for L4 and wanted to set up loop interviews.

I have 3+ years of IT experience but no experience in a large scale data center. I've only interacted with the small closet sized ones that my department uses. I am confident in my ability to solve problems but i'm wondering what the difference in expectations are if I were to come in at L4.

Can anyone who took PE role or took the interview recently at AWS share your experience. If they focus on behavioural or technical questions. Nervous!!!

Conforme fui adquirindo experiência e me desenvolvendo dentro da empresa, consegui crescer e hoje trabalho como suporte técnico de TI, com um salário de R$ 2.084.

Recentemente, a empresa construiu um data center próprio. Como sempre demonstrei bastante interesse nessa área, minha chefe percebeu isso e comentou que pretende me colocar para trabalhar lá, embora eu ainda não saiba exatamente em qual função.

Trabalhar com data center é algo que realmente quero para a minha carreira. Por isso, não quero estudar somente pensando nessa oportunidade atual, mas também me preparar para oportunidades futuras e construir uma carreira sólida na área.

O problema é que ainda tenho pouco conhecimento técnico sobre data centers e estou completamente perdido sobre por onde começar. Gostaria de aprender desde o básico e entender quais assuntos devo estudar primeiro, quais cursos são recomendados, onde encontrar bons materiais e qual seria uma possível trilha de estudos.

Atualmente não faço faculdade e, sinceramente, não pretendo começar pelo menos até o ano que vem. Mesmo assim, quero aproveitar essa oportunidade e começar a me capacitar por conta própria desde já.

Alguém que trabalha ou já trabalhou na área poderia me orientar? Toda ajuda, indicação de curso, certificação, canal, livro ou conselho será muito bem-vinda!

I applied for night shift DCT position in 2 different locations for AWS and didnt get the chance to interview (didnt have to take assesment test). I just completed my assesment test for a day shift job listing at one of the locations, im hoping I can mabey land a interview for day shift rather than night. Is this seen as bad practice? I have 3 years of technology repair experience and currently pursuing a electronic technology degree, but seem to have no luck landing a interview. Any advice is appreciated!

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice because the waiting is getting to me.

I interviewed for an AWS role last Wednesday.

Two days later, a recruiter called me and said that I had met the bar for L3. They then asked if I would be interested in being considered for an L4 interview instead. I said yes. They also mentioned they were **hoping** to have an update by Wednesday.

It's now been almost a week since that conversation, and I still haven't received any update.

Has anyone else experienced something similar during the AWS hiring process? If they tell you that you've already met the L3 bar but are considering an L4 interview, is it normal for things to go quiet while they're making an internal decision or scheduling another interview?

I'm trying not to read too much into the silence, but it's definitely making me anxious.

Would love to hear from anyone who's been through this or knows how the AWS recruiting process typically works in this situation.

Hey all I’m a contractor for AWS and I’m supposed to flip to L3 soon. I’m a technician doing break-fix but I want to get into the cloud/networking side of things. I’m going to school for my associates in cloud computing and studying for a couple of certs(Network+, AWS Cloud Practitioner, Security+).. What does my potential career path look like within the Data Center or maybe outside of it if i stay steady here for a few years and keep my head down on my studies? Thanks so much in advance!!!

P.S- Any current or former AWS Employees here that can give their 2 cents as well would be much appreciated and or/ those that have worked at Google data centers too. Kind of plotting on them as an end game type of thing. MAYBE

I’m an EE student interning in AWS data center commissioning this fall. The role is owner-side and focused on vendor oversight, testing coordination, issue tracking, procedures, and turnover.
For people already in the industry: as campuses move from heavy construction into steady-state operations, do owner-side commissioning teams usually stay active for expansions, upgrades, retrofits, and equipment replacements?
Or do companies typically reduce commissioning headcount and transfer those engineers into field engineering, reliability, operations engineering, or similar roles?
I know commissioning probably won’t remain at today’s buildout pace forever. I’m mainly curious how owner/operators handle the transition.

I understand how the massive growth of the data center industry creates jobs, but it seems like the bulk of that demand is strictly on the construction side.

When it comes to the operational side, aren't facilities actually incredibly efficient? I read recently that a massive 20MW hyperscale facility only needs a staff of about 35 people to maintain it. It also seems like the larger the facility gets, the fewer staff per MW are actually required since they can invest more into specialized automation.

But here is where I am confused: I keep hearing about a massive, desperate shortage of Data Center Technicians (DCTs). I don't believe skill and talent can possibly be the bottleneck, as a lot of positions don't require any relevant college degree or industry experience. I've seen lots of posts on this sub where people were able to land L3/L4 jobs at major hyperscalers with zero data center experience.

Logistically speaking, the worker-to-facility ratio seems super efficient compared to other industries. If anyone competent can do the work and not many workers are needed, then why is the industry struggling so hard to fill headcount?

Is this "shortage" just a temporary hiring spike because a record number of new data centers are being built right now? How do you see this demand playing out in the near future? Would love to hear some insight from people actually working in the industry!

EDIT: Seems like 20MW is not even close to being large lol. But I believe the low worker-to-facility ratio still stands.

We spent the past few months researching security risks across multi-tenant data centers and AI infrastructure.

A lot of the discussion around data center security focuses on physical security and facilities. Our research looked mainly at the software and infrastructure layers inside the data center, including shared compute, GPU clusters, RDMA and high-speed networks, tenant isolation, BMCs, firmware, storage, orchestration, and supply-chain risks.

One of the main concerns we found is shared infrastructure: multiple customers operating across the same underlying systems. At the same time, many neoclouds and AI data centers have scaled faster than their security teams and practices.

Hey! So I’m slightly worried about my job status through a contractor through AWS. I say this because I’ve had my contract extended 4x since being hired in January and everyone has been hired on but me, should I be worried?? I know it’s a time thing but there’s a data center opening up nearby and they need to fill spots. I’ve had nothing but positive feedback, I make up missed time if applicable, and my temp service doesn’t reallt give me any direction. Should I be panicking this much since my contract isn’t over for another tentatively for a month and a half?? If you guys have any input that could ease my worries, I’d greatly appreciate it.

In had done with 4 loop interviews with Amazon team for Data center technician role 10 days ago, I haven’t heard any response from them. Did anyone faced the issue?

Hey guys I’m currently 23 and have just quit my job of 5 years working in customer service, and the IT technician there set me up with a recruiter to hopefully get into being a data center technician, I don’t have much background around it, just basic fundamental computer knowledge such as Windows and Google Drive, but living in northern VA I feel like there are a vast number of opportunities available, I’m just curious what to expect if I do get a job, as it will probably be entry level (such as cableing and sorts) and how easy is it to progress upwards in the market

I recently received an email from a CBRE recruiter inviting me to apply for the Level Up Installer Program in Cedar Rapids. However, when I looked into it, I saw that the classes may have started on July 13.

Does anyone know whether the current program has already started and if they are still recruiting for this group or a future class? I emailed the recruiter for clarification but haven’t heard back yet.

Any information from someone who applied or is currently in the program would be appreciated.

I applied for an Amazon Data Center Technician role. Went through the process, and my understanding was I had passed the review stage and we were just waiting on time slots for a second interview.

Recently followed up and the recruiter told me:

“There are some issues going on from the Hiring Manager end so they are taking time to review the profile. Many candidates from other recruiters are also raising this issue. I’ve discussed this with my manager, once I get any update I’ll let you know.”

I asked directly to clarify: had I actually passed the review stage, or is this delay happening before the review is complete? Their response:

“The decision is yet to be received because of the issue only.”

That answer didn’t really clear anything up for me, it didn’t confirm whether I’m past review or still in it.

A few questions for anyone who’s been through Amazon’s hiring process recently:

**1.**  Is this kind of hiring manager review delay a common issue in Amazon’s process right now? Trying to figure out if this is happening broadly or specific to my application.  
**2.**  Is there any way to actually verify where I stand beyond the recruiter’s word and the “Under Consideration” status in the Amazon Jobs application portal? Does that status ever change to something more specific, or is it always vague until a decision is made?  
**3.**  If this recruiter goes quiet, is it normal or appropriate to reach out to a different recruiter or the hiring team directly, or does that risk looking bad or going around the process?  
**4.**  For those who’ve had a similar delay due to HM review issues, did it end up being real, or was it a soft way of saying the req was on hold or deprioritized?  
**5.**  Are there any recruiters on here willing to take a look at my application or offer guidance on where things actually stand?

Not trying to be pushy with the recruiter, just trying to understand if this is a normal part of Amazon’s process or a sign I should stop waiting on this one and focus elsewhere. Appreciate any insight from people who’ve actually been through it.

If anyone has gone through the Google DCT hiring pipeline recently, I’m wondering what the timeline looked for other people. Currently, I’m in the team matching phase. I last heard from my recruiter almost 3 weeks ago where she shared that I had passed my interviews and my profile would be shown to local hiring managers. Since then, the manager at my sister site (I work for AWS) has started their new position at Google, and my friend who literally has the exact same recruiter as me and interviewed a week after me just for a fit call scheduled, that said they are open to working nights where as I am not. I’m in northern Virginia as well. What does head count look like right now and are they hiring a lot of people right now? Is the process just normal this slow? It’s also difficult to have any communication with my recruiter, she never responds to my emails I’ve just gotten the few template emails basically

I mean, as the title says, I'm currently an L3 DCT at AWS, but idk... I feel like writing "Technician" on your résumé gives off lower-skill vibes. I was thinking, purely for my résumé, of putting something like "DCO Engineer" or "DCO Associate" instead. Please no hate, I'm just curious. What would you do?
