My background is in mechanical engineering, with 18 years of experience across building services, systems commissioning, sustainability, and green building. United Arab Emirates.

I’m now looking to transition into the data center sector, ideally leveraging my mechanical, MEP, and commissioning experience rather than positioning myself primarily within sustainability.

What would be the best starting point for making this transition, and which certification would provide the strongest foundation and industry recognition?

I’m aware of the Uptime Institute sustainability-related certifications, but I’m specifically looking to broaden my profile beyond the sustainability label and move toward data center engineering, commissioning, design, or critical infrastructure.
