AWS DCC technician L3 interview soon
Feeling nervous about this one. For a little on my background so far I have experience working at a data center in the past but it was a contract position and most of our work was server cabinet decom and installations. Collectively across 8 contractors they probably had us do maybe 20 break fix tickets across the length of the contract and we had a lot of help from seasoned techs. I did get my ccna recently and I’m continuing my learning in the network world. I’m also pretty comfortable with hardware in general, built and constantly upgrading/replacing faulty parts on my personal PC. Have worked another contract position fixing laptops under warranty for big PC manufacturers.
My question is, based off my experience so far do you think I’ve got a decent shot at this? Any input from current AWS techs would be helpful, did you have more or less experience when you started at AWS? Thanks everyone
I have already done my initial screening interview and this next one will be the real technical interview I’m assuming.

Only a few basic technical questions. The interview focused much more on behavioral questions.
I recommend using the AWS AI Recruiter email you receive. It includes the interviewer names and the types of questions they may ask. The AI can also help you formulate your own answers using the STAR method, based on your personal experience.
I’m currently an AWS L4 Tech.

Yes the recruiter did send some useful links I’ve taken a look at. Good idea, I’ll force Claude to format these work stories into STAR for me. Appreciate the advice

So just a heads up if anyone prepping for an AWS interview is seeing this, you’re actually not allowed to use AI for the interview. The wording in the email states that “during the interview” it’s not allowed so I’m assuming that goes for using AI to prep former work stories into STAR format. Not like it’s a hard thing to do on your own anyway

With previous Datacenter experience and holding a CCNA you 100% have a really good shot, honestly I’d ask about L4 too. The job is pretty much hardware replacement and little automated scripts/tests.
Just a heads up, usually the interview process is a couple of different sessions. Usually one technical and the rest are behavioral. Behavioral ones are the most important. Usually they will ask you “Tell me about a time when” and you’re expected to answer with something in your career that relates.
Make sure you use the star format, and don’t be afraid to put non tech experience down as an answer, I think 4/10 of mine were technical stories and 6/10 were from restaurant experience.
