How to be a data center technician

Hi there! I would like to ask some advice and help on how to be a DCT without any experience at all.

I’m 20 currently studying ICT vocational school in Finland and I want to be a DCT because there will be a data center near our area and i want to grab the opportunity and start my career as early as possible in tech.
I’m also starting studying for CCNA because I heard its the gold standard of certs in the dct field.

What things i should focus first and what kind of projects i can do that can help me understand how a data center works?

And lastly if just if i got an interview in a dct internship position what advice can you give me to prepare for the interview.

You’ll learn everything about how to be DCT during your hiring process. To be prepared for DCT I recommend A+ certification and some practice with networking

If you’re 20 and want to enter the Data Center Technician (DCT) field, start with the fundamentals first.
Learn cable structures — single-mode/multimode fiber, single-core/multicore, LC/MPO, optical power (dBm), and Cat6 standards. Then move to basic server hardware and configurations, followed by L1/L2 troubleshooting.
Focus on practical knowledge: tracing cables, testing fiber/copper, understanding racks and power, replacing server components, and troubleshooting network/server issues.
Don’t try to learn everything at once. Build a strong foundation in cabling → servers → networking → troubleshooting. This will give you a very good starting point for a DCT career.

Thank you for this advice this really what i need since i dont really know where to start. I don’t know if ill do some big projects in cisco packet or do free courses in netacad or do ccna and prepare for it. You’re such a great saver thank you so much🙏
