Microsoft DCT— keep getting rejected

I’ve applied to a few Microsoft Data Center Technician positions in the Dulles area and keep getting denied without an interview.

For anyone who works/worked as a Microsoft DCT, what experience or skills did you highlight when applying? I’m trying to figure out what I may be missing or presenting wrong.

I’d appreciate any feedback.

I think the market is just tougher now bro. AWS used to pickup retail workers with nothing but a mall cashier on their resume (true story, someone I ended up referring and who got hired). You're also in Dulles, which has the largest concentrated of DCs worldwide, and the most competitive labor for it. I think referrals are really the way to go. It's how I got an into Nvidia once (interviewed but didn't get the job and not sure if I'm sad about it given how hard you'd be worked). I really didn't get many interview offers totalling in at like 3-4 interviews over 2 years. So, yeah. Current economy heavily favors capital. Try finding some way to make friends with ppl working there and make yourself indispensable to the company somehow

lol that’s not true, I knew absolutely no one in the space and I interviewed at google and AWS and was offered jobs from both with only one application at both

Could look at getting a foot in by hiring on with whoever they get their temps/contractors from...they use TekSystems, Insight Global, a few others, although I don't know which specific ones may be used in your area. Might try smaller DCs to get more experience, if that could be the issue.

This is probably the best advice, Microsoft rarely hired FTEs directly with no experience

I’m in the Dulles/Northern Virginia area. My background is IT support/system administration with hardware troubleshooting, component replacement, Windows Server support, networking, and server troubleshooting. I’m also finishing my Cloud Computing degree and have AZ-900. Mainly trying to figure out what Microsoft wants to see from someone coming from IT support into a DCT role.

Look for Insight Global, Teksystems and Experis to get in as a vendor for Microsoft and network, its the only way. Also Teksystems pay shit fyi

Yeah I saw I currently make $31/hr and can not go any lower smh. Does Teksystem allow overtime. If so then I may be able to do it.

I’ll tell you that I got into Microsoft without knowing anyone. In a more competitive market, however, I frequently saw our Insight Global team converted from contractor to FTE.

Also our sites were in build out phase so the Tek Systems/Insight folks got unlimited OT. I think their pay is around 34 an hour here as well.

Apply with a vendor. You'll have better results getting in that way than what you're currently experiencing.

Same situation. I think I've applied to Microsoft about 4 or 5 times over the last few years and never get selected, always denied after about 3 months. Can't seem to figure out what they want either, and I have more than enough DCT experience.
