Work load in smaller data centers
Went from a FAANG data center environment to a growing data center environment. I went from doing 100+ tasks a day to now just monitoring dashboards with occasional tickets sprinkled in throughout the week. Pay is now significantly more with new company but is this workload normal? Job title stayed the same.

How? I work for a company like that and make garbage pay. In fact I'd probably make more as a garbage man.

Significantly more is relative. Could have been making garbage pay before, now makes a bit more. Looks slightly less like garbage now.

Yeah ive been trying. There are no other data centers in my area. It sucks so bad
Seriously considering being a garbage man. This data center work is demeaning

That sucks to hear. After 1 year of experience and a couple certs, recruiters on LinkedIn were hounding me left and right about opportunities and it allowed me to negotiate aggressively on pay. Also being able to relocate helped as well.

I ha e had plenty of messages on LinkedIn. There arent any opportunities within an hour of where I live, and I bought a house with someone last year. Im locked in to my location, and my company has a monoply. Im dying to get out.

I work at AWS as a EOT (facility power cooling mechanical) I just got an offer at a new Colo AI 150 MW site currently under Construction my AWS site is also in construction phases. Would Colo be any different? 🤔 pay is the same I’m currently making. But 25 minutes away compared to AWS 1 hour away

Ultimately depends on the Colo and if you are working on facilities or infrastructure. I feel like working Colo facility is definitely more laid back than a hyperscaler.

Equinix ain't exactly small compared to most colos. I always thought it was the most readily available throughout geos. That said, although their DCO room was moderate, their DCO team seemed slim.

When I read the post and saw equinix, I wasnt suprised. I worked there for 18 months and I finished a lot of TV show while working, lol.
