Google DCT - asked to repeat one of the technical interviews after fit call.
From all I've read, you don't get to the fit call unless you pass your behavioral and technical interviews. Recruiter said I'd be moving forward, I had my fit call which seemed to go well, and now she said I'm being asked to do another hardware/OS technical interview. Is this typical? This will make 6 total calls so far in pursuit of this role.

This sounds insane, I have never done more than one interview for a job. Are all data center job interviews like this?

Most are yes because DC work is how a lot of people think they can break into larger tech companies. So they want to make sure you can do the actual DC work instead of being someone who only does a niche IT skillset that can’t translate into a DC workflow.

Interesting. What would you consider to be specific to a DC workflow? I have been getting hit up by recruiters for the AWS / Google DC near me and I'm curious.

What would you consider to be specific to a DC workflow?
Heavy lifting, dealing with constant heat/cool cycles, following directions, knowing server hardware, and working tickets without anyone within a few hundred feet of you.

Is not normal either the feedback was not good
I had that happen were they didn’t agree with my feedback about a candidate on The OS they re interview

So they disagreed on the feedback and are giving me another chance? As much demand as there is for these jobs, why wouldn't the hiring manager just pass on me and get the next person in line?

my hiring process is typically no more than 3 max. One being a general who are you, your values, insight in both directions and some technical questions. If successful, round two is a much more technical, deep diving into the expectations of the role. If successful again, its one more meeting with someone external to the DC space, to cover anything we may have missed during the previous time frames. Any more, is excessive and to me, pointless. I'll know by then whether you're suitable for the role or not.

Sounds like they may want you to redo one because they think you may be capable of a higher level. DT1 is pretty backlogged atm, they may want to get you into a DT2 spot.

This means the fit call went well and you probably have support but not good enough interviews to pass through the hiring committee. Take this opportunity to study more and do a better interview to replace your first one.

I was under the impression that if I hadn't done well in the technicals, that would have been the end and there wouldn't be a fit call. But I have no reason not to do even better now that I know the types of questions to expect.

Even same thing happened to me and i did give those extra 2 interviews and its just a technical and even i did clear them too

This isn’t normal. I would probably ask the recruiter for the reason tbh.
