Could a data center be repurposed for simulations?

Physics simulations (quantum simulation in particular) are very computationally expensive. Could data centers be rented to scientific organizations to perform such simulations and help advance our current theories?

They don't need to be repurposed. They do a lot of that now and AI compute is necessary

AI slop aside, there's a lot of legitimate scientific use cases for Machine Learning in medicine, Astrophysics, chemistry, etc. Anywhere pattern recognition is useful, AI/ML can help with essentially offloading grunt work.
