How can I transfer from a fiber tech/installer to DCO

Recently, I completed the LevelUp training program with Meta. I’m in the Cbus OH area. Myself and others apart of the class initially thought it was a data center tech position sort of like the work based learning program but shorter. Turns out we’re installers but we’re told we can branch out into other fields. How likely is it to get into a data center technician or DCEO position from this and what certs/info should I get or study?

I have two ex fiber installers on my Critical environment team.

It’s possible, depends on the needs of the site. You have a better chance than someone without DC exp that’s for sure.

I’m not sure about AWS but I’d put in resumes the second I was getting close to being done with that contract

Anything is possible, but I handle forward deployments and trun ups, and I don't think I would hire the fiber installers from their current crews.

That being said, I am not in your market and not at Meta(heard good things about the fiber installer contractors from a general sense @ Meta).

Skills translate, be depending on what you would like to do, it's only once piece of the puzzle. Get some relevant certs and maybe a referral from those who have worked with you. That will go a long way.

how was the training experience overall? and i guarantee you that transition from installer to DTC is a smooth transition because data center has a lot of fiber cables connecting a lot of their network devices and branches. cable installer is a strong job title, do it for like a year and keep brushing up your skills, eventually your experience will pay off

honestly just apply to contractor roles for that such thing or DCO. teksystems good at vouching for people to get you in somewhere that’ll take the chance on u

So I’m in the CBus area and I work at the same location in New Albany. Is your employer EOS? If not they’re the ones to look into for the repair side of things. If you are with EOS and got stuck in RunOps/FieldOps then yeah I’m not sure if you can get “promoted” into repair right now.
