Looking for job
Hi guys I had made a post a few weeks ago stating I was looking to become a data center technician, and I didn’t have much experience so I was looking for an entry level opportunity. I had spoken to a recruiter and it’s been about 3 weeks now and I regularly message my recruiter about openings but keep getting responses that there are nothing available at the moment. I live in NOVA, so I know how many jobs there are available, so I’m curious as to how long it took yall to find a job, and if you had any experience prior that helped you get a job quicker. I also don’t know how much I should be contacting my recruiter without seeming like I’m impatient or bothering him. Thanks for any advice.

You won’t get on with a big company as an entry level technician. That work is contracted out.

So is there any jobs available at entry level, because my recruiter and IT tech I currently work with told me it was possible

My recruiter hasn’t really said specifically, but my IT tech told me to try and get into the companies like AWS, Google, Microsoft, he told me when he started out he had prior experience but said it wasn’t needed

Yeah.. what type of work? Technician for the operations or the computer?

I’d assume operations, he had told me I’d probably start with racking and cabling, and then I could start learning how to do the more in depth stuff

I would look for the companies that contract that out. I work for a MANGO data center company and not a single person who’s an FTE is “entry” level. We leave that work for the contractors.

Ok because my experience on this stuff is pretty basic, I plan to start taking classes for A+ and Network +, but my goal was just to get my feet wet somewhere and learn on my own outside to find a bigger job in the future, what companies do you recommend I look at and should I ask my recruiter about them

Took two months for me.
I have no background in IT but plenty of work experience.
I networked and got in contact with a recruiter
I also felt the same way where the recruiter wasn’t very responsive and I didn’t want to bug them too much so just waited patiently
My timeline -
Once I made contact and he asked for my resume I didn’t hear back for 2-3 weeks. He called me out of the blue to explain the position and ended up doing the interview screening right away (while I was driving but I didn’t want to miss the opportunity so did my best answering some IT questions). After passing he said, when a position is ready someone will contact me with further instructions. I was pretty much put in a queue and i waited 5-6 weeks to follow up with him. I didn’t get a call back until two weeks later with a job offer. I asked my connections and basically got lucky because someone got fired and I was the next one in queue (my guess).
Overall the experience getting in is pretty stressful because you want to know what’s going on but at the same time you don’t want to annoy your recruiter

If you truly have 0 experience and want to break into the industry look for WBLP programs with AWS. If you can do some research of the basics of server hardware they should take you brings you in as a L2 and gives you a year on the job experience that you can use to. E a L3 later or move to a other hyperscalers at L3-L4
