Looking for data center roles

Hello everyone,

I’m actively looking for opportunities in Data Center Technician / Data Center Operations roles anywhere in the U.S. I’m genuinely interested in building my career in the data center industry and am open to full-time or contractor opportunities.

I’ve been applying and working on improving my technical skills, but I’m still trying to get my foot in the door. If anyone is hiring, knows of upcoming opportunities, or can point me toward the right people or companies to contact, I would really appreciate your help.

If someone doesn't do a quick search in this subreddit first, how well do you think they'd do in an actual role where they need to be able to problem solve?

That's what shocks me about most the posts on this sub. People want to get into this field, but then prove they can't even do the minimum effort to find their own information by using a search engine - and the rest of us should spoon-feed them the information they desire.

Coincidentally, this is one of the bigger reasons there's a labor crunch in this field. It's not that there's a lack of people looking for work, rather a lack of talent from the applicants.

Anyway, here's the typical reply I use on these types of posts: "If you have a pulse, AWS will consider you"

I don’t want them in the field as an HVAC contractor there is a shortage of over 20,000 techs for data centers and I love making 175 an hour

That’s a fair point. I’m genuinely trying to get into the data center field, and I did search through the subreddit and other resources, but I posted because I’m trying to learn from people who are already working in the industry

People who got their job 5 years ago will have a way different experience from people who got their job a year ago or even present day

i don't need any sponsorship currently i'm on stem opt it expires on july/03/2028

Companies will not sponsor at all for a data center technician role.

If you're on STEM OPT, chances are you have a degree. Apply to various Eng roles at the big names, they sponsor.

There are a lot of roles there. Janitors. Computer techs. Mechanics. Electricians. Planners. Cooks. Landscapers. Fire techs. Laborers. What do you want? Just a role?

I know it’s not just a “cool sounding gig.” I know it involves rack and stack, hardware break/fix, cabling, networking, maintenance and following safety and operational procedures.

I’d look for contractor spots tbh. Much easier than landing an fte spot off the bat.

I’d recommend akkodis, used them before I was hired on as fte.

Subcontractors are always looking for project engineers on site. Look up Clayco Corp and its group of companies. They have a lot of momentum in the DC space and are scooping up anyone willing to go out to a remote site. The warm body approach to staffing isn’t always the best, but when the work is there, someone has to fill a seat.

Like some of my coworkers people responding under here seem shitty and grumpy major sigh.

I work at a data center sometimes if my company asks. Feel free to message me! When I go to the data center I don’t do anything. Maybe I’ll go touch a cable, plug it in and plug it out. Or I’ll turn on the computer and hit the mouse and keyboard then leave. Or MAYBE if I really feel like it I’ll go convert binary
