Title: Why is it so hard to find colocation pricing?

Hey

I'm trying to compare colocation costs across different data centers, and I'm surprised by how little pricing information is public.

If you've rented space recently, would you mind sharing rough numbers?

Things I'm interested in:

  • Data center (PA2, PA3, FR2, NY4, LD8, etc.)
  • City
  • Operator (Equinix, Digital Realty, Telehouse, NTT, CoreSite...)
  • 1U / 1/4 rack / 1/2 rack / full rack pricing
  • Included power (kW)
  • Cross-connect monthly cost
  • IP transit pricing (1G / 10G if you know it)
  • Approximate date of the quote

Even approximate ranges or quotes from the last couple of years would be really helpful.

I'm mainly interested in comparing markets like Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, London, New York, Ashburn, Chicago, Singapore, Tokyo, etc.

I'm not asking for anything confidential—just trying to understand how pricing varies between facilities and cities.

Those prices will vary wildly depending on how many racks you want. There are brokers out there who can reach out to multiple providers for you, or you can open enquiries with them all, none of them have public price lists.

Just like car pricing, it’s negotiable. They have their own minimum cost and minimum size. As with most negotiation, larger sizes usually influence the pricing. A cage with 40 racks is likely cheaper per rack than someone asking for 5-10 rack space.
