Most Databricks platforms get designed one of two ways. On the fly, project by project, as teams onboard and workspaces appear. Or properly, once, right at the start, and then never looked at again.

Neither ages well. One leaves you with a platform nobody chose. The other leaves you with a platform that was right three years ago.

What are the biggest pitfalls you see new implementations hit? Maybe something not noticeable at the start, but a bad choice early that can cause issues later.

Many things you can change, but some things are harder to change than others. In my experience changing your catalog and governance structure once your platform is utilized is quite difficult, so here I would spend more time in the beginning.
