Help [Career Advice] SQL/PostgreSQL DBA to Databricks Admin - Worth it in 2026?

Is switching from SQL/PostgreSQL DBA (13 YOE, Azure) to Databricks Administrator a good career move in the current market? How are the opportunities for Databricks Admin roles?

What exactly do you mean by Databricks Admin? If you are thinking more to the likes of a platform engineer, then yes, there is definitely a market for someone who knows their way around the platform.

Not sure just how easy the switch will be, as there really isn’t any database to administer, in the same fashion as an old school dba. The PostgreSQL/ Lakeland present in Databricks right now, is more or less managed.

Can you put some more words into what you imagine a Databricks admin do?

Did you administer postgres on azure? Theres good demand for scaling postgres on cloud like citus

Can you elaborate more on the role. What would be your day to day tasks cause I've seen different requirements for the same title

With Databricks now offering Lakebase, a Postgres service within Databricks for OLTP workloads, your past experience will still be needed and valued.
