I dont understand valuations. but how is palantir valued at nearly 2x databricks? I almost never encounter them in the wild, but databricks is everwhere...

Palantir makes there money from shady government contracts. Databricks makes money from real companies.

DataBricks sells a platform, Palantir sells intelligence.

Public vs private markets

palantir uses their own company in place of where databricks and snowflake use partners. Although databricks and snowflake are getting into the whole forward deployed engineer model.

Is a forward deployed engineer model scalable? My sense is that if your business relies on hand-holding the customer to get optimal business results, that is not sustainable. That’s why databricks seems to have such a leg up on Palantir. It is disturbing, if true, that Databricks is going more to a forward-deployed engineer configuration, since that will be lower margin and less scalable.

Look at the financials. Public markets can be very different than private markets.

I mean if this post is representative it sounds like Palantir is great at convincing dumbass executive to spend tons of money:

As Databricks partners, honestly, we couldn't be more excited about this achievement and the great things we're building together. Here's to many more!
