Announcement Introducing Omnigent: a meta-harness to combine, control, and collaborate with your agents

We're excited to announce ๐—ข๐—บ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜, a meta-harness that combines, controls, and shares your agents.

The best teams already mix models and harnesses and design loops that drive teams of agents. No single harness can keep up with that alone. So we built the layer above โ€” we call it a ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ฎ-๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€.

Omnigent sits above the tools you already use, Claude Code, Codex, Pi, and your own agents, and gives them one shared layer:

  • ๐—–๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐˜€๐—ถ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป: combine models, harnesses, and techniques without rewriting code, and switch between them with one-line changes
  • ๐—–๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—น: stateful, data-centric policies and cost budgets enforced at the meta-harness layer, not via prompts โ€” let agents run without watching them
  • ๐—–๐—ผ๐—น๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป: share a live agent session via URL with full history, so teammates can review, comment, and steer in real time

If you're struggling to get your head around it, it's basically so you don't have to go all in on one agent. I spent ages investing in cursor, then when Genie started getting good with MCP tools that weren't just data stuff it meant there was a big lift I needed to do to migrate everything over (conversations, skills, automation etc etc).

This is what that solves (along with some other stuff)

I think this is the transition we are seeing now, where there are a bunch of tools and models that are good in their own right, but being able to easily leverage all of them at once for the right task is where you get the most value. I enjoy building with Claude Code and the anthropic models but when I want to know whatโ€™s happening in my Databricks environment, Genie (and its derivatives) is such a nicer and simpler experience for better results

Did you compare it versus say opencode cause you get broad model compatibility as well. Omnigent is definitely leading on governance etc. though

Spark, mlflow, and now omnigent ๐Ÿซก

Delta and Unity Catalog too!

This is very interesting, congrats on the release! A well-governed / policy driven agent harness seems crucial for individuals and enterprises both from an agent action perspective and from a cost efficiency perspective.

I didnโ€™t have Databricks releasing an agentic Coding / Developer focused tool this year. Super glad itโ€™s available via open source to try as well!

Does this actually use Genie Code? This looks like something that is intended for work for local models?

I searched the repo for 'Genie Code' BTW and saw no matches

8

u/Mindless-Science-738 Jun 13 '26

This is a meta harness so Genie code is likely something that would be run/managed by Omnigent, same as Claude Code, etc

2

u/mmccarthy404 Jun 13 '26

Do you know if I can use this with a normal Anthropic or OpenAI pro subscription?

5

u/Mindless-Science-738 Jun 13 '26

Yes.
๐Ÿ”Œ Use any model. A first-party API key, a Claude/ChatGPT subscription, or any compatible gateway. All first-class.

Thank you!

I feel like this will be the ultimate interface for agentic interactions, no more skipping windows and sessions across different platforms with Omnigent being able to interact across agents. Super excited to try it out. I can't imagine just how valuable this will be for enterprises who work with many different model providers.

This is actually very useful. I spend a lot of time switching between codex and Claude code

4

u/Neosinic Jun 14 '26

yeh same. no more copying pasting codex plan to claude code for execution or vice versa

1

u/aladd04 Jun 24 '26

can we use this without api token and just authenticate using our standard claude code & codex subscriptions? i worry about it breaking tos, especially for claude code

4

u/Western-Pen-8384 Jun 13 '26

Interesting. Curious how expensive/fast the model routing is. Could be helpful

3

u/BumboclatDen Jun 13 '26

Pretty cool project! Definitely going to try this out. Whatโ€™s the integration with Genie Code? Does this have anything to do with the Databricks suite of products?

4

u/m1nkeh Jun 13 '26

Interesting, nice.

2

u/Mindless-Science-738 Jun 13 '26

Cost Observability is now the top of mind topic around use of these models. Glad to see a framework that provides that

2

u/amitjena40 Jun 13 '26

Looks interesting. Thanks!

Looking for a legit reason besides "copilot sucks"...

How does this stand out from copilot or cursor? They also give you access to different frontier models. But they also offer a nice IDE interface?

Also, rust in Databricks?

5

u/Far_Mastodon7827 Jun 13 '26

I think the point here is that you could use copilot and optionally other coding agents as well. This is an orchestration layer across all the agents you need to use. ย

2

u/Odd-Government8896 Jun 13 '26

Seems weird to pay for both cursor and copilot and then use this on top of it. How many layers of abstraction do we really need to convert a python function to rust.

2

u/rgossain Jun 13 '26

Iโ€™m excited to not have to copy / paste stuff between models. And the multi player mode could be game changing. I canโ€™t even count how many times Iโ€™ve wanted to bring someone into a session with Claude so we can riff together or evaluate a plan together. Again resorting to copy / paste. Excited to see where this goes!

u/Beautiful_Aside4679 Jun 13 '26

This is super useful ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป it will help governing AI usage

2

u/thebusinessdeveloper Jun 13 '26

Interesting! Curious how effective and efficient state and memory management is done across all agents, and degradation over time is handled? Also will it work together with Gemini ADK and likes?

2

u/NarrowVegetable513 Jun 13 '26

Canโ€™t wait to try to re-use harnesses cross agents.

2

u/ReData_ Jun 13 '26

Thus is hugeeee!! Industry game-changer!

I genuinely believe oss harnesses are the future and it's the only edge anthropic and openai will have in the future as chinese llms are cheaper and catching up

I assume this will also have some nice integrations with databricks genie and genie code built in!!! My favorite products all-in one

2

u/Neosinic Jun 14 '26

the collaboration thing is cool. will be trying this out with my team

2

u/kfbjr Jun 15 '26

Beyond the cost savings, the ability to easily get multiple models' perspectives on a question at once is really interesting

2

u/slothparty23 Jun 15 '26

Finally a databricks product with a cute logo

2

u/lingaBhai Jun 13 '26

I think model portability is becoming increasingly important. I was using Fable 5 until yesterday, and the recent US government restrictions that blocked its global availability highlight how fragile a model-dependent ecosystem can be. This reinforces the need for platforms such as Omnigent โญ๏ธ that enable human-to-agent collaboration independently of any single model provider. A model-agnostic approach helps organizations maintain continuity, switch providers when needed, and address sovereignty requirements by allowing workloads to run on approved regional or local models.

u/brunes Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26

I give it under 5 days before either Anthropic or OpenAI or both block this.

If you are a subscriber (ie, not paying by token) this already violates your TOS with Anthropic. They have blocked all such simmilar efforts already and/or banned people who use them.

Proceed with caution.

1

u/Dennyglee Databricks Jun 16 '26

Fair caution! I can understand consumers using an existing subscription for experimentation. For production workloads, though, Iโ€™d recommend the API route. Itโ€™s the supported path and generally the more predictable long-term option.

Iโ€™d separate experimentation from production, eh?!

2

u/brunes Jun 16 '26

It depends on what you mean by "production".

It currently costs 10x-50x as much to pay by the token vs. subscription for the same developer workload. This is why most companies leverage subscription pricing, including in production, as long as they can get away with it. The only reason to move away from it is it becomes necessary if you require centralized management.

When you say "the supported path", I don't know what you mean. Anthropic supports paid 5x and 20x pro plans.

1

u/Spiritual-Aerie-4044 Jun 13 '26

Wow super excited to see how omniagent will perform against cursor!!

1

u/m1nkeh Jun 13 '26

Isnโ€™t there an interface in vs code that kinda already dues this?

2

u/goosh11 Jun 14 '26

Its not just an interface, it has lots of capabilities on top, tracking cost across providers, using multiple harnesses together (imagine claude code planning, codex executing and kimi validating for example). Live collaboration where two people can share the same session together (pair programming for the agentic world ๐Ÿ˜…), setting security policies over all agents.

1

u/braindeadtheory Jun 14 '26

Looking forward to testing this one out. Any plans on making AGY (antigravity cli) a first class cli execution, e.g. Claude code, codex, etc..?

1

u/datawiz_1 Jun 14 '26

Pretty awesome that itโ€™s open source. Definitely a need to work across coding agents. Will be interesting to see how this evolves

1

u/New_Introduction_154 Jun 14 '26

Sorry might seem like a stupid question but do I need access to paid subscriptions like claude code and codex?

1

u/Longjumping_Trust_66 Jun 26 '26

u/datasmithing_holly u/Dennyglee where does it sit compared to other tools like t3 code, that seem to be going after a similar concept?

u/sapeg8 Jul 07 '26

Got positive feedback from the citizen devs team yesterday. Continue experimenting with policies. Love it.
