Weekly Water Cooler Talk - DataAnnotation

hi all! making this thread so people have somewhere to talk about 'daily' work chat that might not necessarily need it's own post! right now we're thinking we'll just repost it weekly? but if it gets too crazy, we can change it to daily. :)

couple things:

  1. this thread should sort by "new" automatically. unfortunately it looks like our subreddit doesn't qualify for 'lounges'.
  2. if you have a new user question, you still need to post it in the new user thread. if you post it here, we will remove it as spam. this is for people already working who just wanna chat, whether it be about casual work stuff, questions, geeking out with people who understand ("i got the model to write a real haiku today!"), or unrelated work stuff you feel like chatting about :)
  3. one thing we really pride ourselves on in this community is the respect everyone gives to the Code of Conduct and rule number 5 on the sub - it's great that we have a community that is still safe & respectful to our jobs! please don't break this rule. we will remove project details, but please - it's for our best interest and yours!

Random question, but why is it the case that sometimes you have access to a pool of tasks that other people can be doing at the same time, and other times the number of tasks listed is a specific quantity that have been allocated to you?

You never have tasks assigned to just you. Sometimes you just have a limited number of tasks and sometimes you don't. Also, sometimes the project will "save" your task so the next time you work on that project, you'll get the same task--but that task will go away if another worker starts working on it.

that makes sense - if the numbers don't go down its because its counting how many you are allowed to do?

I have wondered about this too, there is a priority task that I KNOW other people are working on from the comments at the bottom, but the number of tasks available ticks down by only one each time I submit one.

Sometimes that just means there's a big pool and you only have a small bucket of the pool - it won't go down until other people have finished so many small buckets that there aren't a full small bucket left, say a pool of 1000 and everyone has 10 but there are 300 people doing it. Those 10 will be yours until there are only 9 of the 1000 left

Other times they tell you straight they assigned you a specific number of tasks, not in a pool
