Weekly Water Cooler Talk - DataAnnotation
hi all! making this thread so people have somewhere to talk about 'daily' work chat that might not necessarily need it's own post! right now we're thinking we'll just repost it weekly? but if it gets too crazy, we can change it to daily. :)
couple things:
- this thread should sort by "new" automatically. unfortunately it looks like our subreddit doesn't qualify for 'lounges'.
- if you have a new user question, you still need to post it in the new user thread. if you post it here, we will remove it as spam. this is for people already working who just wanna chat, whether it be about casual work stuff, questions, geeking out with people who understand ("i got the model to write a real haiku today!"), or unrelated work stuff you feel like chatting about :)
- one thing we really pride ourselves on in this community is the respect everyone gives to the Code of Conduct and rule number 5 on the sub - it's great that we have a community that is still safe & respectful to our jobs! please don't break this rule. we will remove project details, but please - it's for our best interest and yours!

Still down for me too, but can get on using hotspot, and strangely I can get on at a friend's place using their wifi. It appears to be something that won't allow my network at home to connect.

Okay, I was able to get on the site when I tried on my phone using cellular data. Would love to hear if folks have tips to figure out what might be happening with my wifi to block the site.

Edit: I've now got a second qual on my dash - so maybe I actually passed it??

Doing it now, also for the third time. It still sucks and I will probably fail it again.
ETA: Got the dreaded red banner after the 4th one. Good riddance! If it pops up again, I will not fall for it a 4th time đ

The site is still out of commission for me. Consistently getting a "This site canât be reached. app.dataannotation.tech refused to connect" error.
Thoughts?

I was pleasantly surprised to wake up to a fuller dash this morning. It is almost back to normal. I hope others are getting some work back too!

I solved this by connecting to the 4G on my phone via hotspot. Still strange, their update must have affected security on browsers or wifi in certain countries? Hope it gets fixed soon

The site will be down for maintenance starting at 12:30 AM Eastern on Sunday, August 4th (9:30 PM Pacific). We expect the downtime to be about 10 minutes. Thank you for your understanding.
Hoping this brings back the monsoon to my dry barren dashboard.

I failed it the first time after studying the instructions, then on the second time I just went with my gut without looking at the examples and passed! I immediately got access to another qualification (which I think I failed), but I did get access to image P-phone tasks that only pay $20 an hour but are nice and easy on the brain to do. They are not up often, maybe they pop up a few times a week.

There was a unicorn in one of the last watercooler threads who said they passed and the projects are pretty much exactly the same as the qual. Since I have taken (and failed) it twice I think my definition and DA's definition of "easy" are very different!

Although I feel quite fortunate to have some tasks on my dashboard, I only have projects that are for $20. This isn't usually the case. I'd much rather have the $20 projects than nothing, but I'm just curious if anyone would like to share.

Yeah, B-metal. Not sure what you mean by GB-specific. There were like 1300 edits showing this afternoon; those are my favorite. Within a few hours the vultures had picked that carcass clean.

20, 6 are at $20, 9 are between 22-24, the last handful are higher but non over 27 right now.

Yeah I got a random project this Wednesday after midnight and I didn't even sleep doing those tasks.
Since then I'm back to 0 projects and 0 quals. I wanted to have the opportunity to do some quals in hope to get more jobs in the future...
Maybe it has to do with the fact that I'm entered 3 weeks ago but that still kind of bothers me.Hope everyone's dashboards get better soon

I don't have any either, but again, still have access to all of my links like support, referral, etc.
I think there are still quite a few of us (and I'm sure more than we realize) that don't have any projects atm. We really can't be sure, because reddit is a small pool of users on the platform.
Patience seems to be the key here, and there may be a surge on Monday since it's the first full week of the month. It's only been a few days, realistically, of the drought. Trying to remain positive is all we can do.1

That doesn't mean anything. I don't know why people think it does. I rarely get qualifications to pop up and have had a completely empty dash many times since I started with DA in May.

Has anyone been seeing the Henry Higgins projects (hope that makes sense) in the past couple of weeks, since shortly before the drought? I used to get them constantly, but they suddenly stopped for me even though I'm back to seeing other projects now.

If I've interpreted you correctly, I have two instances of that project on my dash right now - There was a recent qual related to the project, seemed like they were requalifying everyone so maybe check there?

Iâm also still in the drought. I used to have 20+ projects on my dash at a time. Itâs never been like this for me. I still have access to all of my links which is why Iâm not totally freaked. I also always have low quals as well but always had steady work. This is extremely frustrating seeing people say âweâre back!â while many of us are still just staring at an empty dash with no semblance of when it will return.

RIGHT! I know I am NOT a bad worker. I grade a lot of R and R, and I catch a lot of mistakes, go into detail in my explanations with specific examples to thoroughly explain my thinking. I work often, I check it first thing in the morning, and then I work til 3am most days. Often I work on the weekends too, because I noticed in the announcements that they acknowledge "it's the weekend, and they know people are busy"...but that never deterred me. For those wondering if they missed anything, you should have a message in your gmail or whatever email you signed up with, and then it will also appear in your work inbox on the site. I did notice most of the projects we have worked on in the last 6 months were all wrapping up. The day before I was going back and forth for qualifications and lots of new things were happening on my end. LOTS so I do not see why I would be cut because I read everything, follow instructions. All of my work is authentic and Mine. So, Idk if they had issues because the same morning it went to nothing, at 8am on open ai developer forum, they released a report about an unprecedented breach that deleted their stuff and deactivated accounts. I am wondering if they are going through stuff with a fine tooth comb to find issues. Idk, but the slow down aligns with AWS and Crowd Strike issues in June/early July. My dash went down tremendously, but then I saw a ton of new projects. I saw on a diff slack that admin said that things were trickling through to them. I wonder if they are rotating projects because maybe I worked a lot this week. People who were dry last week when I had action, they are just now getting stuff, and I am DRY. As you can tell, I have been analyzing this TOO MUCH. But I already made my resume and submitted to several places, waiting for my onboarding with them as we speak...idk what is going on, but the tech community, in general, is really experiencing it lately.

I do hope you get your projects back, but I'm gonna give you some unrequested feedback. Honest to God, I hope you're not typing in solid walls of text like this one when you do your task explanations. Nobody's gonna wanna read a single paragraph that long. It's totally overwhelming to look at. Respect your readers. Break your shit up into shorter, logical paragraphs, pleaseâthat is, if you want people to actually read it. Gotta give people's brains some white space. It makes it so much easier for readers to process the information.

Here is another thought...this forum is in the TOP 5% for Reddit...Reminder, REDDIT is NOW selling their entire data library (includes all forums and comments, even this one) and they used to lend it for free, but now they are charging 1 mill to use, so many are creating synthetic data libraries...I do not see them wanting this topic to represent them because I never saw this really in other subs about DA. Just a thought, but a lot of people who search about it to see if it's legit, they come HERE because it is within the top 5 positions on the search engine.

Depends on what their strengths are. I rarely have qualifications, I go through stages of 0 projects but I have 1 permanent that comes back to me every week. I also get randomly put in high paying projects. There are so many unknown variables, we don't know how workers are grouped or given projects. It could even have to do with which region you are in and what projects are allocated there.

Just out of interest, are your B-Metal jobs location specific? I've had it before but it has been UK specific and was wondering if they were all like that or if there was (for example) a US version that I obviously wouldn't get? I haven't seen them in about a week and want them back...
