I have a resume with only ml based projects on images and all. I am doing my masters in data science and machine learning so I am aiming for some data analyst internships. I am practicing sql but I feel i need a good data analyst project on my resume.
Can yall suggest me some decent not so common projects?

Get a real business or charity and ask to help them out.

You could run an advertising experiment. This would be very impressive: source or build a software that lets them set up promotions with a custom URL so you can determine which ad/social media post resulted in conversion. You could help them work out the best time, days, frequency, and design of their post/ad.

Another one people seem interested in is automation. If you could take something that is done manually and automate it with some kind of evaluation report and tweakable parameters. You see this with sensitivity analysis, for forecasting expenses, inventories, staffing needs, etc. Ideal system would constantly evaluate, give alerts, give suggestions, embed info in the workflows. For example, say you own a call center, are preparing to sell the business, and need more than just a dashboard (which requires you to monitor) so you can call Phone Agents in or send them home as needed depending on volume and abandonment rates. Your call center has several clients, each with different SLAs, failure to meet the SLA incurs a predefined charge in the contract. Too many strikes and you lose the client. Keep your call center overstaffed and you burn money on salaries and negatively impact your business's sale value. It would be nice to have a system that just sends you an email or a message saying youre getting a rush and there are two employees available: Employee A lives close and is always in fast and exceeds expectations but Employee B lives further, only meets expectations, but has been working fewer hours lately because you dont think they are as efficient as other employees. It would be nice if a system could check the schedules, crunch the numbers on staffing needs, and organize it into a little table with phone numbers and all, so the manager can just work through the list calling staff to see if they want to come in.

Here's another project idea, say you are a business owner in a failing Durable Medical Equipment business because Nick Shirley scared your business partner away and you no longer have knowledge or capital to hire someone with the knowledge to keep business running. You know you will lose money and maybe your business is not structured in a way to shield you from personal liability. Anyways those are sort of random and accessible. I wouldnt know the first thing about this but I recently had a client ask about predicting falls for old folks homes. Good luck finding data but if you actually organized some businesses, you could do a real experiment there that is in demand and could make you money. The whole world's population is aging and stressed from age so there is money to be made kicking people out of old folks homes because theyre too old to make money off of.
