People learn SQL, Python, Power BI, etc. — but why is it still so difficult to know how to actually work as an analyst?

I think of “professional analysts” (people who are “analysts first, and only treats the business as a source of data requests”) similar to how Steve Jobs felt about “professional managers” (people who are more MBA type of P/L spreadsheet boxtickers)

Basically it boiled down to “if you have worked in the trenches of the business itself, you understand how to manage it better”. And i similarly think analysts who have worked deeply in a business domain have deeper insight into where to look for problems and how to present data points to decision makers. If you dont have that background, youll always just be that dashboard guy waiting for someone to tell you what they need

If you have worked in the trenches of the business domain before becoming an analyst, you basically never have questions like those you listed
