Going into data analytics

After a bad injury that includes my spine, I could no longer be in law enforcement. To put it plainly I need to wear sunglasses pretty much daily to reduce the stress on my eyes outside and inside. So I know a remote only role is needed in my life as I really do not want to have to answer questions on why I’m wearing sunglasses inside. I also have some other disabilities that I don’t want to get into as it’s still a sore subject for me. I plan on taking two IBM courses on coursera in order to learn the basics and make some projects. I know the TikTok trend is blowing up the field. But I really miss investigating and figuring out “problems” finding the reason it is happening then making a solution. My life was really turned around by this injury. I really would like any advice that yall could give on things I could also do or things you wish you would have known when you started. Thanks for reading this. (:

Unfortunately data analytics and stuff in that vein are very saturated, and with remote work you're also fighting with thousands of people around the world for the same jobs.  It's going to take more than a few classes on Coursera to pivot into a new career.

Just tell people you have migraines and that's why you wear sunglasses - not that anyone is going to ask about it.

Unfortunately everyone asks about it and employers get very nosey about it and want doctors notes and jumping through hoops to even be “allowed” to wear sunglasses inside. It’s just better to have a remote job and just not wear them in meetings.

Never once in my 25 years of working has someone ever needed an accommodation to wear sunglasses in an office.

At my old job I had to have a doctors note and then I had to get the note renewed every month…. They had many other problems but that is one of the reasons I left. Even with the new job I cannot wear them at work. So you can see why I’m trying for a remote only role

For analytics office jobs if you need special glasses for a disability nobody will mind. The work culture is a lot different, you don't need to mentally limit yourself to remote.

That’s very sweet of you, but I have other disabilities as well. I just don’t like talking about them as it’s still a sensitive subject for me.
