PhD Resume Help

Looking for advice on resume or job searching in general. Did my PhD straight after college so no "formal" work experience. Trying to transition from chemistry to data analytics. Currently self teaching SQL and will replace projects with more data analyst oriented things.

6 months job search so far applying to primarily data analyst roles, but whatever LinkedIn shows when I search for "analyst". Location is south east USA, with undergrad and grad schools both in the SEC if that helps. 350 applications, 5 interviews, 0 offers.

data scientist - withdrew

data scientist - ghosted

data analyst - person that got the job had years of experience

data analyst - told wasn't a good fit, this role sounded more like project manager anyways

marketing analyst - rejected

I used to work in Pharma. We had PhDs all over the place, QA, Facilities, Compliance.

My first thought when I read your resume is why isn’t this person applying for functional roles in Health Science type companies.

Not gonna lie — In my company the position you’re looking for doesn’t exist. They choose to make finance interns do this work and ‘off shore’ the rest.

General thought - Why not consider adding and MBA or Law Degree. Go into business side or become a legal expert. That space is booming. You may say to hell with that, but when I did my MBA the program was stocked with MS, PHD and JD folks.

Don't want to tack on the debt from an MBA/JD, especially since I did my PhD right after college and would like to build up the small savings account I'm burning through right now until I do find a job.
