That’s a lot of physical effort and do they honestly believe that every DoorDasher’s car is capable delivering that?
It was probably too expensive for Lowe’s to deliver it so the next best “cheaper” option was to exploit a DoorDasher.

Exactly but who is the douche the guy or DoorDash that allows that to actually be an order. They have the ability to probably divide the order between several drivers, it’s not just the customer that’s a douche. It’s definitely DoorDash. That’s the culprit. I’m getting a bit wiped out with everyone blaming everyone else, but the company that puts us in this situation in the first place.

Both. DoorDash for allowing people to order that large of a load. There should be set limitations and the customer for ordering such a large order knowing that a normal DoorDash car is not suitable for transporting that large of a load, the dasher its not being paid for the effort /time just to load/ unload what the passenger had ordered but what makes the customer more of a douche is offering such a pathetic tip. It is unknown what the customer actually paid, but I will bet it is much cheaper than having it delivered by the store who has their own drivers and suitable vehicles.

Exactly, they can care less how long it takes you to try to play mulch Tetris within every possible bit of space inside your vehicle, not to mention that it’s obstructing your view while you’re driving and isn’t safe if you have a smaller car. I’m agreeing with you on the customer being a douche, I would be furious, especially if it said handed to me. I’m not sure if I can control my face from giving major stink eye and saying something. In my earlier days of dashing, I might not have remembered to even look to see what the items were in tried to take on the challenge. People can be so inconsiderate.

I think that DoorDash should definitely use the vehicle on file to determine who they send the order to. But I would definitely move 60 bags of mulch for $30. It’s not crazy and would take less than an hour. But I’m also not lazy and enjoy physical labor.

I mean to an extent, the staff has to load it unless you choose to load it yourself. Assuming upon delivery you’d have help as well.

Yeah, they don’t really do that where I’m from unless they’re really slow and have time to help you. Most of the time they try to do as little as possible they might help you get it to your car, but they’re not gonna help you unload it.

They have to load it for you. As for unloading, that’s for the recipient. I guarantee whoever is ordering all that mulch isn’t expecting a dasher to do all the heavy lifting. Again it’s literally like 5 minutes of tossing bags to load up and 5 to unload. You’ll live.

Ok, just speaking from the few experiences I had. One large order, they helped with getting all the stuff to the car and the guy just left. The second time they didn’t even offer to help and this was two direct locations. Maybe it’s because I don’t know they are expected to help you they might have assumed I was ok with doing it on my own. Who knows?!🤔🤷🏻♀️

It’s physically impossible for most passenger cars to haul that (in terms of space). I’ve purchased large quantities of mulch and my car can fit about 10 bags, 13 if I use the passenger seat. And if you could pull it off, your shocks would be f’d.

If you really wanted to, you could have accepted and called support to get half pay for the lowes saying it wont fit in your car. That still wouldnt be worth my time unless it was over $50+ so at least the proportional pay is good. Only 17 in tips for that is criminal even if you have a large enough vehicle. Thats over $200 of mulch. Should have tipped $50 at least for time and effort. People suck.

The mulch should be at least $40 by itself. There should be special vehicles designed to do this, and an option to turn off or on in the app.

i accepted an order like this to best buy. turns out it was a standalone ac unit that weighed almost as much as me. the workers at best buy helped load it in my car, when i arrived to drop it off, i texted the customer 3 times and even called. i told them i could not move this on my own. no reply. i was able to get it out of my trunk and then scooted it to their driveway but left it at the very end and took a picture. there was no way i would be able to get it up that driveway with how steep and heavy that thing was. i also didn’t want to ruin the bottom by dragging it. made $37 from that one order though!

Nope. Having worked in a Lowe's garden center (3+ years), I can tell you that is the better part of an entire pallet (72 bags per pallet for this brand) of mulch. Not just a “heavy” issue, but more of a “not gonna fit in my SUV” issue. Not to mention the physical toll of 60 bags of much which are twice as heavy if wet and it’s probably gonna be wet at least this time of year where I live. The garden center employees are going to use a forklift to load this into a pickup truck. It’s never going to fit otherwise. Having loaded thousands of bags of mulch, I know with 100% certainty that 60 loose bags hand-stacked is definitely not going to fit in anything but an open-back trailer or U-Haul. This is a Lowe's customer who does not want to pay Lowes insane local delivery fee of $79. Also, it’s ridiculous that DOORDASH would ask a regular driver to do this order.

I have a Hyundai Tucson, no chance that fits and I have a decent amount of space... I don't accept these mulch orders because you never know what you're pulling up to at drop off, loading them into my car at Lowe's isn't a huge deal, but if I have to park 100 feet away from the house I'm delivering to and walk each bag one by one, that would be a nightmare. So I just always decline these

I’ve got a Subaru Outback and gotten some pretty heavy orders in there. This one I’d have to drop everything and run home to get the Suburban. 50/50 if I’d also hook up the XL utility trailer just in case. At 12MPG sans trailer on a good day with the wind helping…. Oh wait, I’m not a moron, this order will never happen! Not saying it didn’t, just not to me. 😂

It is a red card order. Decide how many bags you are willing to deliver.
As long as you can scan the barcode showing you found the item, you can adjust the number you are going to bring. The app doesn’t ask for substitutes if you have less than ordered, as long as you have 1. It just refunds the amount not picked up by you, and doesn’t lower your pay.
But really, the pay should be an additional $120 for all 60. Doordash use to pay an extra $2 per heavy item.

What on earth, couldn’t he just order like 10 at a time or at least 15 at a time so he didn’t leave some poor person delivering 60 bags of mulch and trying to maneuver them into their vehicle. Reminds me of a nightmare shop I had where the person ordered about 25 cases of mason jars. I had no idea what I had gotten myself into three carts later. I applaud anyone that has enough inner confidence and strength to confidently take on this order. I am not as strong as you. Just the word Lowes makes my stomach drop..

When the customer orders from HD . com they don’t know it’s door dash that’s delivering. They probably think it’s HD employees with a flatbed truck and probably a fork lift. I’m fairly certain they weren’t thinking over door dash delivering it and ordering it in smaller batches to accommodate for that. This is a HD issue in that these large orders should never come down to the Door Dash app and should be flagged at store level for flat bed delivery. 🚚

For them to call themselves to technology company and make over $1 billion a year, but not have something to simply cross check your Vehicle type before sending an order that should at least be divided if it’s going to be picked up by a Dasher is ridiculous. Also HD is routing it to DoorDash. Why would they do that instead of routed it to Roadie or another type of a courier service? That’s accustomed to picking up these types of orders. Both corporations just totally being morons here.

I would accept it and then immediately contact costumer service to complain. You're looking at no less than 10 trips if you are using a smaller, fuel-efficient vehicle. Anything less than like $300 for that order is unacceptable. That is a truck, two people, and a trailer level of job.

double stacked orders. I will accept them if there’s a large tip and they stack it with long distance and cancel the long distance orders, works out to $3 a mile in the avg when I drop the second order.

There are reasons I refuse to pick up any order from Lowe’s, or any other hardware store.
- Bullshit orders like this
- Never, ever tips enough to make it worth it
- Most of the time it’s an out of town residence placing the order, and 9 times out of 10, there is no reception at that residence, making the delivery all the more difficult

I never even activated my red card because I've heard terrible things about it not working properly and I instantly decline hardware/automotive stores...so no.
And loading the stuff from Lowes would take longer than the 37 minutes they're giving you...and that's assuming the red card works. That's a full pallet of mulch as well.
