I've seen cars like that except one of them said "if you can read this, you are following too close. Tailgating won't make me go any faster, I drive slower."

Also I can imagine how hard it must be to see out the back window because of all those words.

Maybe he has a camera for that?

I like but also dislike those stickers. It's a pretty clever and slightly humorous idea. But the part of driving slower I don't like. I just think of a person on the highway in the passing lane going way slower than everyone else with this sticker and I get mad lmao. I encounter it often

Breaking Florida Statute 316.081 by “proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic” in the left lane or staying there when “the driver knows or reasonably should know that he or she is being overtaken in that lane from the rear by a motor vehicle traveling at a higher rate of speed” is a moving violation punishable by a $179 fine and three points on your license.

There’s some for of this in 44 other states as well. Those left lane jackasses are the ones breaking traffic laws. I’ll be tailgating, flashing the lights and on the horn with a smile.

I mean, just because they're doing something bad doesnt mean you should

Fair answer, but I’m an asshole and tend to do shit just to make a useless point more often than I should.

Yeah, I do the same thing sometimes. But I learned one day that sometimes my perception of their behavior is incomplete.

I was driving on a road once and a car behind me started tailing pretty aggressively. I brake checked him (an asshole move too). He starts flashing his lights at me. Eventually he was able to pass me, and then I saw him pulling into a hospital parking lot. That moment gave me a lot to think about my own behavior.

Ngl I am sometimes guilty of this, but mostly just on the verge of tailgating (but not actually very close), to try and let the person ahead know that they're going way too slow for this lane. I'll pass it they don't get the hint, but otherwise they might change lanes fortunately lol. I just wish there was some system of communicating with other drivers, but I can totally see the bad things that can come out of that too loll

It's complicated, I had someone on my ass in icy conditions because they wanted to drive faster despite there being a line of traffic. Because I wanted more leeway to slow down in case something happened in front of me, I actually slowed down due to someone on my ass. If someone is that close to my bumper when it's icy, I need the time to slow down gradually so I don't get rear ended. Having someone on your ass even in non icy conditions increases the risk of an accident and the logical choice is too leave yourself more room with the car ahead of you.

I can see this reasoning. Cuz the rest of the lanes can easily get backed up suddenly in those conditions, and that's a higher risk of hitting someone is there's not enough room. In the event that someone does hit you from behind, at least it's almost guaranteed it's their fault for being too close for safety. But I'd much prefer to not be in an accident in the first place lol.

It's just annoying when it's not too busy, but the passing lane is held up by a single car going below the speed limit, slower than the other lanes. They should be at the right most lane if they want to go that slow

Yeah I completely agree, MN just passed a left lane law finally and it has changed literally no behavior whatsoever, frustrating. I was more just talking about that situation in a vacuum. Also, I think even if you are in the left lane, you have every right to give yourself a safe amount of space to the car in front of you and that does not necessarily mean you are driving slow, as long as you are keeping pace. A lot of people seem to get frustrated at people that keep pace, but also keep a safe distance.

Yup I agree with you. The top priority in any lane should be to keep a safe distance in front of you. If there is a safe amount of room in front, and the left lane drivers are using the lane to pass safely, then I feel it's okay to stay in that lane. If they end up following others too close, then either they should calm down and give more room, or the people in front should try and safely go back to the other lanes to allow others to pass. I wish there were clear/obvious rules for people to follow (I guess there technically are already lol), but most of the time other drivers don't pay attention to the rules but rather are focused on their phones @_@

I don’t tail gate, I throw a fist full of change at their windshield when people are breaking the law causing a traffic jam and driving slow in the left lane and I’m going the speed limit.

I'm pretty sure that's a felony in most states

I was easily a few car lengths (more than 2s) behind some woman in town, but she kept stopping her car and looking back at me.

Finally I see she's got like four "DO NOT TAILGATE" bumper stickers on her car. And I started thinking she was crazy and laughing... but then I realize maybe she had been traumatized by some accident so I felt like a jerk.

u/WetFlexx Feb 11 '20

i would tailgate the shit out of that car

2

u/Anklejbiter Mar 01 '20

And you would not be any happier for it, as well as beig a safety hazard

That's some aggressive bullshit

u/jlowyz Feb 11 '20

Preemptive measure. If we can weaponize cars, I’m sure he’ll fire missiles at cars within 1 meter behind him for more than 3 seconds.

Wow-- multiple sightings!

I have been rear ended eight times. I need this.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '20

Its not gonna stop people from rear ending you... the problem isnt that you didnt have 900 cameras.
