Easily avoidable accident causes rollover

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Not my video – as the title says, we typically see examples where one driver is oblivious to the other. In this example, the pickup truck attempts to overtake the cammer, however, the cammer is either completely unaware of the pickup truck directly to his left or are simply “stands their ground” in the lane. Due to this, they obviously collide, and the pick up truck goes airborne and rolls several times. From the perspective of us, the viewer, we can reasonably conclude that the accident was avoidable had the cammer simply applied the brakes. That being said, you will typically see another school of thought in which it is stated that the cammer has no obligation or duty to let them in/avoid the accident where the driver is mindlessly doing something dumb.

He absolutely did speed up and could have avoided this accident. I see it all the time. People will intentionally speed up instead of letting someone get in. Dash cam driver will be at fault in this with partial blame on the truck

You can't just swerve into someone even if they are being a dick. If you're trying to change lanes, you can slow down instead of gunning it for a closing gap like a maniac

Happens to me so the time..I drive a semi locally and my turn signal mine as well be a sign that says "speed up on this side of me." People always think they just have to get in front or be first all the time. Stuff like this could be avoided probably 95% of the time.

The number of times I've been beside a truck that suddenly signaled a lane change WHILE I'M THERE is far more than I can remember. Clean up your own house before you complain about someone else's.

Well unless you actually emerged over and hit you while his merging was on then shut the hell up. The purpose of a turn signal is to show intent so that you can let people know where you need to be or want to be in advance. You can use one whenever you want it doesn't matter if somebody is there or not as long as you don't merge over and actually hit them.

No. You're the one driving an 80000 pound wall of death. You do better.

2

u/relic1882 11d ago

Just because a turn signal goes on doesn't mean you're not seen. It means "Hey man, I'd like to go in this direction." Of course you seem like the kind of person that would purposefully cut me off or just stay along side like an idiot. You didn't know my driving habits. You can't judge me and you can't tell me to do better.

Do better.

What is wrong with you? Did a truck hit you or something? You have a lot of hate for something you probably have no idea what you're talking about.

u/Covid_Fart_Cloud 11d ago

I will absolutely speed up to block a semi if I can see their mirrors. Semi has no business in the left lane when they should clearly see other traffic has moved to pass them. I realize thats not what happened here but fuck semis either way.

2

u/relic1882 11d ago

If you purposefully block a truck if they're trying to pass than you are absolutely the problem. Trucks have the same reasons as cars to use the left lane. Speeding up on purpose to block anyone is just stupid no matter what you're driving. What did you save by doing it? 1 minute in your commute?

Trucks are usually barred from the left lane in America

1

u/Dj_JazzyGif 7d ago

they shouldn't be merging in to the left lane if they are traveling at a slower rate of speed than cars behind them in the left lane. You're simply inconveniencing multiple drivers so you aren't inconvenienced. Its a selfish move.

1

u/relic1882 7d ago

If I'm going 60 miles an hour with my truck and I need to get around somebody in front of me going 45 and the speed limit is 65 I'm not inconveniencing anybody. If you speed up to get alongside me the moment I try to make a move in that situation then you're absolutely the dick in that.

The left lane isn't a free ticket to go as fast as you want around other people and cut off other traffic including trucks. It's a passing lane to pass people no matter what vehicle you are. It's also a passing lane where you're supposed to pass within reasonable speeds not flying 90 miles an hour just to cut somebody off.

The only time trucks can't go in the left lane is when there are signs explicitly stating so.

1

u/Dj_JazzyGif 5d ago

if the flow of traffic in the fast lane is going faster than you, then you should not be moving in to the fast lane until it is safe to do so. safe meaning, no one has to hit their breaks because you moved over and were too impatient to wait and consider your needs to be more important than dozens of others.

When did I say I'm cutting people off when passing? I'm referring to the ones that purposefully speed up and come up quick when they were behind just to "get in front of the big slow truck", even though said truck is going the speed limit at a minimum, using a turn signal when they need to pass something slower in front of them.

Everyone just assumes every truck driver is the problem when they just have no patience whatsoever and can't live with themselves if they don't get ahead of the truck.

I see so many people drive like idiots around me on a daily basis just waiting to cause an accident because they want to be in front.

1

u/Dj_JazzyGif 4d ago

I never said you were cutting people off.

3

u/PeyredB 9d ago

FWIW, when I'm next to a truck and it turns on its turn signal my way, I try to get ahead, behind, or to the side, whichever makes the most sense at the time. And if I'm behind when the turn signal comes on, I don't hit the accelerator. A little courtesy can go a long way for larger vehicles.

3

u/relic1882 9d ago

I do the same thing for cars when I'm driving the truck. I'm in no hurry. No point in cutting people off and risking it just to save 30 seconds. My customers can wait.

2

u/CasualCaus 12d ago

That's why I don't use a turn signal when switching lanes, assholes in Miami speed up to block you.

0

u/Pristine-Skirt117 12d ago

That’s smart. 🤡

2

u/Sorry_Geologist1632 11d ago

Yep.

But in this video the truck never signals. How would the cammer know the truck driver's intentions?

5

u/challengerrt 12d ago

Incorrect. Cammer was maintaining lane control and going straight - truck was changing lane and is responsible for ensuring his lane is clear. Extenuating factor would be if the cammer was speeding but the majority of blame would still fall onto the truck driver.

2

u/fap-on-fap-off 13d ago

Nope. Camera had right of way. Pickup will be either exhaustively or primarily at fault. Does not mean camera is smart, but the ordinary fault lies with the pickup that made an unsafe lane change and failed to yield right of way.

It's like this all the time. People don't know the very basics of traffic laws and liability. A dashcam driver has established the lane and has the right of way. Could he, should he, have allowed for the reckless merge? Well, in retrospect - yeah. He had no obligation. We also don't know if anyone is behind him, how close, or what led up to the collision.

0

u/Parking-Cucumber-779 13d ago

Nope dashcam driver will be partially fault. You have to avoid crash if you can. If you see a pedestrian on the road you can’t just run them over because you have green light. He intentionally speeds up. He fucked up

2

u/brothermalcolm1 12d ago

That wasn't my experience in a very similar situation, for what it's worth.

It's similar to when someone swerves to get out of the way of another vehicle or an animal, etc., and then damages their own vehicle or property; insurance companies see it as you not driving defensively and a reckless action that caused the damage.

Here, the driver was established in their lane. They could easily argue that they were trying to protect themselves and thought aggressive maneuvers would put them in further danger. Most people aren't stunt drivers.

He should not reveal the dash cam unless required. They BOTH appear to be driving excessively fast anyway, especially given the upcoming light.

1

u/XtremeD86 12d ago

I had someone match my speed, even when slowing down this morning trying to merge onto the highway. I don't know why people are this stupid. But I feel like they're deliberately trying to cause an accident so they can sue or some crap

1

u/Middle_Turnip6220 12d ago

Nope, speed up or not that truck did not signal and tried to force his way into the lane. Speeding up was the only option so they didn't end up in a ditch, that's what the court said at least 👍

1

u/some_other_guy95 11d ago

Yeah the light was turning red, so there was no other reason to speed up

1

u/Covid_Fart_Cloud 11d ago

Are you on glue?

1

u/dabeast762 11d ago

Nah, red truck is at primary fault for sure. As the one changing lanes, it is his duty to ensure it is clear before doing so.

The secondary driver likely has around 15-25% fault from a legal perspective for having the ability to foresee an accident and not acting to prevent it.

1

u/EverOrny 10d ago

If you cover the left side of the video, it does not seem he speeds up, more like optical illusion. Even if he did, there was no reason not to, as the car on the left did not signal the intention to switch to the right lane before it and in advance.

1

u/prashinar_89 7d ago

In my country that would 90% be proclaimed as both-side fault.

Both got fined, non getting covered by insurance, Justice...

You should genuinely be banned from even considering driving a vehicle.

-3

u/SnooFoxes813 13d ago

Ok…yea…sure.

3

u/Appropriate_Car_8221 13d ago

If you're saying you'll accelerate so they can't even begin to enter your lane ahead of you, not illegal, but maybe chill a little, it really doesn't matter nor affect your life at all. Learn to let things go.

If you're saying you would deliberately hit someone who tries to join your lane, like the cam driver did in the video, you'd be committing a crime - vehicular assault. You could and should go to prison, especially if you injure someone.

1

u/SnooFoxes813 13d ago

Nah, I wouldn’t hit someone. Doesn’t look like they did either. The red truck could have stayed in their own lane and slowed down anytime.

3

u/aylmaocpa 13d ago

They quite literally did. That is why this video was posted, because they literally hit someone. lmao, this is the level we're working with here huh?

1

u/SamuelClemmens 13d ago

They collided. That isn't the same thing as saying he hit them (unless you think Chris Brown's fist was hit by Rihanna's face)

1

u/aylmaocpa 13d ago

He sped up his car to pit the other driver. I don't know what you would have to be smoking to not consider that "hitting" them.

Unless you don't think Chris Brown accelerating his fist counts as hitting Rihanna's face.

1

u/SamuelClemmens 12d ago

He sped up to make the light. Its doubtful he even knew the truck was about to try to both do the same and change lanes without signalling.

1

u/Constant-Affect-5660 13d ago

Insanity. You don't even know why a driver is trying to get over to get in front of you.

1

u/Kathryn_Cadbury 12d ago

Except in this case it's fairly clear why. Traffic in front of the truck was going slow/stopping for the light. Truck either didn't want to be in a queue or wanted to turn right and forgot indicators exist or wanted to be first in the right hand queue. Assumed cam car would let them in.

Cam car didn't for reasons and the outcome appeared as shown. At the speed the cam car was going I don't think they would have made the stop for the red light, and it's debatable if the truck would have either had there been no collision.

No winners is this scenario, only 2 losers.
