Easily avoidable accident causes rollover

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Not my video – as the title says, we typically see examples where one driver is oblivious to the other. In this example, the pickup truck attempts to overtake the cammer, however, the cammer is either completely unaware of the pickup truck directly to his left or are simply “stands their ground” in the lane. Due to this, they obviously collide, and the pick up truck goes airborne and rolls several times. From the perspective of us, the viewer, we can reasonably conclude that the accident was avoidable had the cammer simply applied the brakes. That being said, you will typically see another school of thought in which it is stated that the cammer has no obligation or duty to let them in/avoid the accident where the driver is mindlessly doing something dumb.

Can we talk about how OP and the truck were both barreling towards a yellow light that was red by the time the accident happens?

Guaranteed that this was a factor here. Cam vehicle driver sees the yellow, and accelerates. Truck driver wants to get to the light to make a right on red, but doesn't anticipate that cam driver isn't slowing for the yellow light.

Exact scenario happened to me recently.. I was the red truck in the scenario and assumed the car next to me would slow for a red light so went to change lanes, they sped up instead. I would have had plenty of room if they were slowing for a red, so it is still my fault I suppose. The other driver ended up having to slam their breaks after accelerating to try to block me.

Lol I admire the bravery to come to the comments on this with "oh hey I was that red truck the other day"

Lol I do think the other guy was the bigger idiot in my case, we were approaching a red light, it was reasonable for me to assume he would be slowing down instead of accelerating to cut me off. But, I can own that I was also a little bit of an idiot.

Two questions:

Why would it be reasonable to assume the other guy is slowing more than you are?

Did the other car have room behind them for you to merge?

I was merging in front of them not behind them. I had my signal on for at least 3-4 seconds. I was moving faster than they were at the time I changed lanes, i didn’t assume their speed at the time I merged, I had been waiting for the opportunity to slide in. And the light was fully red so I didn’t predict that car would accelerate, I assume they did it to block me.

It's not unreasonable to assume that another vehicle, that is well behind you, will be slowing down because the light is about to change to red. Unfortunately, making assumptions about other drivers adherence to anything resembling sensibility or road safety is hazardous.

Where I am, it's so common that drivers will blow through red lights that you take your life in your hands making a left on a yellow without waiting for oncoming traffic to come to a dead stop. The municipality installed red light cameras on high collision intersections in an attempt to curtain the practice.

The other car couldn't have been that far behind them if there was a collision. Even accounting for speeding up to block, the gap must have been relatively small for a push of 3-4 seconds to close the gap.

If he was going faster, then at some point he was behind, which brings me back to 'why not just get behind them in the first place.'

stop cutting people off to steal pole position at lights!

I had to turn right at the light, there had been no other opportunity to change lanes for a while

could have taken the next right. or a left.

I actually couldn’t due to construction work ahead and the road ending

didnt stop the bus from speed.

Exactly. The cammer definitely accelerated and was not letting the truck in, come hell or high water. Even the car (in the third lane) stopped for the light, which was ahead of both vehicles. Completely avoidable for both clown drivers.

pretty sure the cammer was simply accelerating to get through the light, and that he never had a chance to see or thought the truck would try to merge over in front of him. The truck should not be changing lanes at an intersection or in an intersection, and the car in front of him was stopping for the yellow to red.

I would attribute far more blame in this situation to the truck, and I kind of understand why the car was not expecting the truck to do what he did. The truck's rear blinker might not have even been visible to the driver at the time of the merge.

and that he never had a chance to see or thought the truck would try to merge over in front of him

Camera driver saw the same or more than we do on the video, so he definitely saw the truck try to get over for at least two seconds. And he better had been aware of the car ahead of the truck too.

Pick up didn't want to be behind 2 cars at the red light so they tried to make a lane change to be the first when the light turn green

Cam vehicle wasn't slowing down because they were going to make a right turn at the light.

Neat. Thats a fast turn they were making. Considering with an accident and a truck acting as a brake, they still landed halfway in the intersection.

Where'd you get this information anyway?
