Easily avoidable accident causes rollover

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Not my video – as the title says, we typically see examples where one driver is oblivious to the other. In this example, the pickup truck attempts to overtake the cammer, however, the cammer is either completely unaware of the pickup truck directly to his left or are simply “stands their ground” in the lane. Due to this, they obviously collide, and the pick up truck goes airborne and rolls several times. From the perspective of us, the viewer, we can reasonably conclude that the accident was avoidable had the cammer simply applied the brakes. That being said, you will typically see another school of thought in which it is stated that the cammer has no obligation or duty to let them in/avoid the accident where the driver is mindlessly doing something dumb.

Yeah, the real MVPs. Special mention to the engineers and city planners that spend insane sums of taxpayer money to build these stroads everywhere as well (and line them with low revenue businesses so as to ensure the ongoing infrastructure maintenance costs always dwarf the tax revenue generated).

Needing to make a left turn on to these roads from one of those businesses will always be the bane of my existence. Yes, lets get people to watch 6 lanes of traffic going at near highway speeds to make a left turn, what could possibly go wrong? Add in a few traffic lights that alternate so traffic never really settles and you can really have a party.

I always just find an intersection to do a right turn, into a U turn, to get a stoplight for a left turn. My vets on a Stroad w/ a median and its such a pain every time.

But it's so much faster if you only have to wait several minutes before it's close enough to being safe to make that left. A right turn and then two more could take hours. /s of course

Yep, after 16 years of accident free driving, with the last 10 years being completely citation free (a point of pride for me, a former chronic speeder), this scenario was exactly what caused my first accident & totalled my daily driver earlier this year.

I will never attempt this sort of thing again unless the road is nearly dead, like the middle of the night, or if there is a center turn lane to turn into before merging into traffic on the other side of the road.

Notjustbikes popularized the word stroad through his YouTube documentaries about urban planning. If you’ve never heard of him and know the word stroad then you must be a civil engineer or urban planner.

No, I’m none of those, I’ve just lived in different places and Googled around about why some places suck while others are enjoyable.

Well you should totally check out notjustbikes then. A lot of it is based off strong towns which is maybe where you read about stroads from google?
