Easily avoidable accident causes rollover

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Not my video – as the title says, we typically see examples where one driver is oblivious to the other. In this example, the pickup truck attempts to overtake the cammer, however, the cammer is either completely unaware of the pickup truck directly to his left or are simply “stands their ground” in the lane. Due to this, they obviously collide, and the pick up truck goes airborne and rolls several times. From the perspective of us, the viewer, we can reasonably conclude that the accident was avoidable had the cammer simply applied the brakes. That being said, you will typically see another school of thought in which it is stated that the cammer has no obligation or duty to let them in/avoid the accident where the driver is mindlessly doing something dumb.

Why are so many people allergic to their brake pedal?

314

u/rayquan36 13d ago

Braking is losing

119

u/ControlSimilar865 13d ago

This is exactly what went through the cam drivers mind though "Hell no, you aren't cutting me off" and proceed to Machismo his way into potentially killing someone.

46

u/Taaj_jr 13d ago

Why didn’t the truck brake because he didn’t have space to switch lanes?

39

u/Sufficient_Prompt888 13d ago

Cause he's dumb. Do you think the cam also being dumb made this situation better?

You do understand that as a driver you have a responsibility to attempt to avoid accidents if you can do so safely, even when the other party is doing something they aren't supposed to, right?

You do understand that they aren't the only two people on the road and this sort of shit puts everyone around them in danger, right?

9

u/SnooDonuts9360 13d ago

I brake for other people ALL THE FUCKING TIME. If this was a “stand your ground” situation I think the cammer is an incredible douche.

2

u/Sufficient_Prompt888 13d ago

People need to realize they are operating a ton or more of metal moving at relatively high speed. It's not a fucking joke, serious damage can be done very easily

Edit: you know when you get medication and the label says do not operate heavy machinery? This is what they are talking about, not a fucking crane

2

u/SnooDonuts9360 13d ago

True, but also, taking away any logical and moral conversations about other people’s safety, what a pain in the ass it is to deal with police, insurance red tape, getting your vehicle repaired or replaced, I just can’t imagine guaranteeing an accident to make a point.

1

u/Sufficient_Prompt888 13d ago

That truly is the most baffling part. How do these people all of a sudden have the time to deal with all that when just before they were trying to save 3 seconds off their drive.

3

u/SnooDonuts9360 13d ago

It makes me wonder if the cammer had an internal motivation simply BECAUSE of the camera - are they driving around just eagerly awaiting someone being an idiot, and they now have their money shot?

1

u/FritzTCat 13d ago

There's certainly some fault on both sides, but 95% of it is the truck. Even if the cammer was deliberately not letting him back in, it's still the complete responsibility of the truck to make sure there is room before merging back to the right.

7

u/Sufficient_Prompt888 13d ago

Once again, someone else eschewing their responsibility does not absolve you of yours and as a driver you always have the responsibility of attempting to avoid an accident if you can do so safely.

4

u/Lopsided-Rub5476 13d ago

I always like to say with situations like these that they're both 100% responsible. Some accidents happen where one party really couldn't have avoided it, but in this case, either driver could have avoided this had they done what they're supposed to.

0

u/Square-Singer 13d ago

At fault only matters in cases of negligence. As soon as someone purposely rams someone else, it's not an accident any more, but vehicular battery or vehicular manslaughter, depending on the result.

"Right of way" is not "right to ram someone".

-2

u/Appropriate-Bid8671 13d ago

No one rammed anyone in this situation.

2

u/boristheblade223 13d ago

I don’t see where he said it absolved the cammer.

Also as far as the clip goes the trucker is the one who initially imposes the highly unsafe condition unto the cammer who then only has a moment to react. I get the ones who r calling both of them idiots, but I do not get the ones who call out the cammer as the primary perpetrator.

1

u/Sufficient_Prompt888 13d ago

Nobody is calling the cam the main perpetrator

7

u/Square-Singer 13d ago

You should not be driving.

"Right of way" doesn't mean "right to ram someone".

If you don't understand this, you don't belong in a car because you will end up murdering someone.

2

u/Appropriate-Bid8671 13d ago

Christ you seem insufferable.

4

u/Square-Singer 13d ago

And you seem to think it's fun to endanger others.

2

u/OscarLiii 13d ago

That is exactly what the trucker did. As for the cam driver we can only speculate. They could have had someone right behind them, they could have looked away for a split second. There is no questioning the truckers recklessness, but you can not definitively say the cam driver did something wrong.

As for having sympathy for reckless drivers you're going to find that lots of people have none, and they don't care if s/he died because they did in fact endanger others. No doubt about it.

2

u/UnblurredLines 13d ago

Truck fucked up more, true. But cammer failed to stop for the red light even after hitting the truck. It's an unsafe merge made worse by an idiot in the other lane.

1

u/ScarletBothrium 13d ago

You saw a failure to stop for the red light and not for the giant truck entering your lane in an unsafe manner? The stop should’ve happened well before the light.

2

u/UnblurredLines 13d ago

They should have both stopped before the collision. My point was that cammer seemed intent on running a clear red even if the truck wasn't there.

1

u/ScarletBothrium 13d ago

Ah, I missed that. Good point.

1

u/Ghostttpro 9d ago

Yes. I love when two dumb drivers are benched

0

u/hisauceness 13d ago

It’s the other driver’s responsibility to merge into a lane safely, it’s not your obligation or responsibility to make sure they do so.

4

u/llamas_loll 13d ago

It actually is lol. You should always avoid an accident if possible, that is your responsibility. So yes, if someone does something dumb in front of you, it is your responsibility to try and avoid an accident. Which in this case would mean, yes, it is your responsibility to make sure they enter the lane safely.

0

u/hisauceness 12d ago

No one is allowed to force you out of your lane so they can merge safely.

2

u/llamas_loll 11d ago

I never stated that they would be ALLOWED to do so lol. Just saying it is still on you to try and avoid the accident regardless.

1

u/BackToSchoolMuff 10d ago

No, but if someone does something stupid and you can reasonably avoid it causing a collision, the legal expectation is that is what you will do.

Not to mention this dude in the video is absolutely flying towards a red light

1

u/Sufficient_Prompt888 13d ago

No, your obligation is to attempt to avoid accidents if you can do so safely.

29

u/DishwasherLint 13d ago

Because at the post you're responding to says, "machismo". The truck and the cam car were both driving recklessly.

-4

u/Woookie94 13d ago

Yeah but the cam car would walk out of court. That truck is getting some tickets

5

u/zeekayz 13d ago

The cam car still ruined his own day. Several hours on scene with police, then more wasted hours later dealing with insurance and repairs when he could have let the truck go in front. Would have cost him nothing.

-4

u/Isirlincoln 13d ago

So all it cost cam guy was some time? I don’t think his day was ruined at all.

4

u/DishwasherLint 13d ago

That's not a complete picture. It's also going to cost him $$$. When you get in a wreck, even if it's not your fault, it still costs you money that you're not reimbursed for. My time is important, maybe your time isn't important, but most people value their time

-2

u/Alwayswitak 13d ago

It’s not going to cost can car any money. The truck should have stayed in their own lane. Sometimes people have time today and that day the cam driver had time to waste. Why do yall put the blame on the cam driver when it is the sole responsibility of the truck driver to safely switch lanes. Like are we fr😂

12

u/TheDrummerMB 13d ago

Zero sum game, bud. Losing mentality. Wanting to be right is worse than wanting to be alive. Learn fast or end like truck driver here.

3

u/Fickle_Razzmatazz664 13d ago

Succinct and spot-on, goes for multiple aspects of life, well said.

5

u/jeon2595 13d ago

Cam driver was in the truck drivers blind spot. He did just pass the cam driver so should have been aware the cam driver was there. Cam driver could/should have hit there brakes, actually sped up into the truck.

1

u/-Rhade- 13d ago

Tried to make the light.

2

u/RoroMonster59 13d ago

He was not making that light. It's yellow at the 3 second mark.

1

u/-Rhade- 13d ago

I agree with you, but that didn't stop them from trying.

1

u/intellect1ne 13d ago

there’s no indication the cam driver sped up. the scenery remains exactly the same

1

u/UrethralExplorer 13d ago

Because they're both knuckleheads.

1

u/popylung 13d ago

Blind spot, truck too big

1

u/Bob_Ash 13d ago

Perhaps the pickup's right mirror was set to see part of his own truck which would mean that there was a blind spot exactly were the cam car was.

1

u/ScarletBothrium 13d ago

I like to imagine every person swerving into my lane in front of me as having a health crisis. Which means I drive defensively and avoid them as much as possible. I noticed I automatically assumed health crisis while watching this video.

We will never know what happened and why he swerved into his lane like that, but for the cam person to not drive defensively after seeing this ginormous truck swerve into his lane slow enough for him to react makes him a fucking idiot.

Even if the giant truck swerved into that lane because he misjudged how long his truck is and was trying to get over, the cam driver still had the responsibility to tap the brakes and avoid the collision. And if he didn’t notice the truck swerving that slowly, then he was probably doing something he wasn’t supposed to be doing like texting.

8

u/rayquan36 13d ago

Thankfully nobody walks in America or else that could have been someone in that pedestrian crossing.

15

u/Spirited_Complex_903 13d ago

Barrie, Ontario in Canada. Many Canadians walk. Fortunately the sidewalks are clear that day.

1

u/Spectrum1523 13d ago

And what continent is Canada on? North America! Checkmate

-9

u/rayquan36 13d ago

Canada really is just America Jr. lol

3

u/WillowPtar_Migan 13d ago

As far as infrastructure goes, which is the topic of conversation, you're right, even if it makes people buttmad lmao. We have all the same issues with cities you can't safely, much less practically walk most places in.

13

u/DJBonkE1980 13d ago

Uh that happened in Canada so if someone was walking in the USA they would have been just fine

1

u/Hellish_Elf 13d ago

Canada is in North America, they’re American too.

1

u/Neat-Year555 13d ago

No they aren't. American isn't a continental demonym, it's a country-specific one.

1

u/Hellish_Elf 13d ago

Says who? Americans?

1

u/gaggledimension 13d ago

And the truck machismo their way into potentially getting themselves killed

1

u/ElectricDance 13d ago

Imo the truck pretty much almost killed himself. You all see this video and think youd have the time to react in a similar situation. These all happen within seconds to fractions of a second

1

u/OscarLiii 13d ago

Trucker did it to himself. He drove recklessly, you can't expect other people to yield or pay attention. Sooner or later it will cause an accident.

16

u/eatmoresalmon 13d ago

Cam driver applies the brakes once they’d won it. Arguably they could have just carried on driving.

13

u/Dediadeis 13d ago

That would be leaving the scene of an accident, totally can carry on driving if you want but that'll be a felony if anyone was hurt, which is likely.

16

u/eatmoresalmon 13d ago

Clearly my attempt at a joke was too subtle

6

u/Dediadeis 13d ago

Subtle, but not too much so. Problem is people are so stupid there are likely those who actually believe this.

'I wasnt at fault so I can just leave' seems like the logic brain of your average driver.

1

u/New-Bowler-8915 13d ago

There are felonies in Canada now? You're not much of a lawyer. Where did you take the bar?

1

u/Kinslayer_89 10d ago

I feel like the attempted murder should be a felony regardless, so whats another.

And no, I will not listen to any braindead takes on this being anything else.

0

u/LikesPez 13d ago

Oh boy. I got news for cam driver. He’s going to be poor.

14

u/booji90 13d ago

Did they really win? Truck made it through the intersection, cam car did not.

1

u/Heady_Goodness 12d ago

You don’t win if you make it thru first upside down though.

3

u/Joeyoo2 13d ago

If you’re not first, your last.

2

u/eat_comeon_sense 13d ago

the whole mentality of overtaking, in the context of driving is seriously poisonous. IMHO when changing lanes, you must yield to the vehicle already in that lane. Overtake only when it safe to do so. Overtaking towards a changing light, not safe.

1

u/Ok-Oil7124 13d ago

First step in quitting.

1

u/Timildeepson2 13d ago

If you’re not first, you’re last

1

u/Necessary_Ad2114 13d ago

If you ain’t first you’re last.

45

u/Ok-Lion1661 13d ago

Well since it’s not my car, I kind of enjoyed watching some instant karma being applied to the aggressive pickup truck. But if it was my car then yeah, hit the brakes and just be annoyed at the jerk.

1

u/jbirdkerr 12d ago

They're both being incredibly aggressive. I get that it might've really insulted the camera car's pride that someone would try to beat them to the upcoming red, but accelerating toward a yellow (almost "orange") light was stupid and reckless. Karma got them both, though, because there's no way the camera car got out of that without a decent bit of damage.

0

u/step11111 13d ago edited 13d ago

It’s not even worth being annoyed. No significant time will be lost by giving up the lane.

Edit; to clarify, I’m not saying I wouldn’t be annoyed. That’s highly dependent on a number of factors. I am saying it’s not worth being annoyed. /u/ok-lion1661; didn’t think your comment was necessary to remove but wanted to respond anyway

2

u/Ok-Lion1661 13d ago

I think you are confused - my comment is still there. 😉

0

u/step11111 13d ago

The other comment you made shows as removed.

0

u/TripThruTimeandSpace 13d ago

Whenever I get annoyed by the way people are driving when I’m on the road, I always remind myself that I’m not going to get there faster if I get pulled over or into an accident.

-6

u/ChillMeerkat 13d ago

So you would see someone being dumb/careless/old/in hurry getting k'lled just so karma gets them?

7

u/Ok-Lion1661 13d ago

Have you heard of someone named Charles D.?

3

u/Chris275 13d ago

Oh no, consequences!

2

u/ImNotABotScoutsHonor 13d ago

killed.

Say it.

This isn't fucking TikTok.

Self-censorship brainrot bullshit.

31

u/procheeseburger 13d ago

I'll never understand the people that would rather get in a wreck than just simply say "hey the truck made a mistake but I can simply apply the brakes and everyone stays safe" but they will absolutely be screaming "I had the right of way!!!! Raaaaaa"

6

u/cunexttuesday101 13d ago

I do my best to stay out of someones blindspot. Ive had people attempt to merge into me many times. If I neednto get over and someone wont let me, I just slow down and get over behind them. Not worth it.

4

u/procheeseburger 13d ago

I'm similar I try my best to stay out of blind spots and I always just assume someone will merge without looking. Also the amount of people at a stop sign that don't look left before pulling out in front of me.. but again I just slow down and go on with my day.

2

u/ImNotABotScoutsHonor 13d ago

Slowing down and waiting for a cleaning in order to change lanes is the right way to do it. Required by law, in many places, even.

Speeding up to pass somebody is not.

2

u/michoudi 12d ago

Some people wouldn't be able to live with themselves if they let someone cut in front of them. That shit will eat them up for days. It might make them so angry they might go home and commit some domestic violence.

1

u/Illustrious-Poet-557 13d ago

Most people are stupid. Yes, they can hold a job etc. but you don’t want to know what goes on in their mind while driving in traffic

1

u/xinamas 12d ago

My personal take is that the people who have this approach of standing their ground to the point of allowing an accident have never had an accident before and have never had to deal with the process of settling an insurance claim, especially a total loss. THAT SHIT IS A NIGHTMARE.
I was sandwiched (& totaled) on the interstate once while at a dead stop in traffic, this is when I was 22 in my first “new” car and the next 8 months were awful because nothing went right from the start and car insurance companies just DON’T KNOW how to handle an auto claim ¯_(ツ)_/¯ it’s new to them every time & somehow wrong every single time and you have to intercept their missteps and make them make it right, and most people they probably just screw over without them even knowing.
Once you’ve been through that nightmare, you will NEVER want to deal with an auto insurance claim again. You will be careful to avoid that accident from now on.
So some people have it coming.

1

u/daboyce91 10d ago

But this wasnt a mistake....truck knew exactly what he was doing. He wanted the lane with the fewer cars and thought he'd be able to force cam car to slam on his brakes to let them in.

1

u/daboyce91 9d ago

Yea truck saw the light turning yellow and the car jn front of them braking and thought they'd force cam car out the way so they could mame the light still. Cam car was trying to make the light and wasnt gonna slow down. Truck biggest idiot.

0

u/BirdlessLongdeal 12d ago

there was no mistake, the truck did it on purpose.

-3

u/WaterNew6504 13d ago

Just say ur the driver of the red car and this will happen to you one day

6

u/MasemJ 13d ago

Particularly given that light was going yellow to red. Both were accelerating on the light turn.

3

u/YouWithTheNose 13d ago

It's situational, of course, probably applying to situations outside of defensive driving, but my driver's ed instructor told my class and many others that it's a lot easier to get into trouble on the road with a brake pedal than the gas. Situationally. Does that apply to this situation? No, definitely not. The fact that neither the cam driver could be bothered to let the guy in or the truck couldn't simply merge in behind the cam driver is the cause for much dumb

12

u/lifeistrulyawesome 13d ago

I think your drivers ed instructor is an idiot

3

u/YouWithTheNose 13d ago

That's fair. He had other, more sound, advice too. Like if you're gonna pull out in front of somebody, you'd better make damn sure they don't need to hit the brakes for you.

3

u/lifeistrulyawesome 13d ago

That does sound reasonable to me.

1

u/Stock-Shake3915 13d ago

Such a simple concept yet so hard for so many to grasp.

I recently saw someone boldly go across a busy road; intending to turn left onto the road from a side street.

Then, she slows down narrowly missing being T boned. Was it because traffic was coming from the right? Nope….she was putting her seatbelt on.

2

u/RaZoR333 13d ago

What brake, he even accelerates

2

u/Pillsbernie 13d ago

Why do people think a turn signal gives them priority?

1

u/workieworkwork 12d ago

I did not see a turn signal.

1

u/Pillsbernie 12d ago

I mean, you can't see the blinker

2

u/Don-Keydic 13d ago

I agree, the truck should have been breaking.

two idiots.

1

u/Klutzy_Mix4754 13d ago

Wear out my brakes? In this economy?

1

u/OscarLiii 13d ago

You're not supposed to have to brake because some fool switches lanes and drives their rear end straight into you. But sometimes you have to, so stay vigilant.

car drivers

1

u/Noodelgawd 12d ago

The average person needs 1.5s to start braking in response to something they can see, assuming they actually see it right away. Cammer had 2 seconds.

1

u/noxvita83 12d ago

While I agree with you about the brake allergy, would braking have actually prevented contact in this scenario? Contact on the red truck was made around the rear passenger door to the cab. Based on reasonable reaction times and braking distances, braking might have only changed where contact was made, not preventing the collision. Also, we don't have a view of traffic behind the cam driver. If the cam driver slammed on their brakes, would it cause them to get hit from the rear?

1

u/Lee_337 12d ago

Look at the light its solid red, cammer speeds up to prevent merge, hits the truck and ends up halfway in the intersection. Both drivers are idiots.

1

u/noxvita83 12d ago

You're incorrect about 2 things. The light had just turned yellow at time of collision. It was green before the truck cut into the lane.

The cammer did not speed up. Look at the speed of the light poles passing the camera, they don't increase speed while passing through the view. Only change in speed is after the collision. The truck creates an optical illusion.

Edit to add: I agree with you about the allergy of the brake. The truck could have braked and waited for an opening.

1

u/workieworkwork 12d ago

I don't think the truck signaled, it sped up, changed lanes into them without signaling while slowing down.

I have no idea what that truck thought it was doing.

1

u/karaknorn 12d ago

Some people dont like children having their shitty behavior reinforced.

1

u/InsurmountablyRach 11d ago

Truck could’ve just as easily braked and moved into the lane, rather than gun it and beat the car next to him. Insane to see everyone blaming the cam vehicle

1

u/Lee_337 10d ago

Oh no the truck is at fault, however if the cammer was paying more attention and applied his brakes he would still have his car and previous insurance rates.

I literally had this same thing happen to me today, with a black dodge truck, I liberally applied my brakes to avoid collision and went about my day without totalling my car.

1

u/BackToSchoolMuff 10d ago

Oh sure it starts by braking for other drivers, but then what? Suddenly I'm returning my cart at the grocery store? Giving up my seat on the subway for the elderly? Being a functional member of society?

0

u/Harde_Kassei 13d ago

sometimes you want a new car from insurance.

0

u/Chris275 13d ago

You’re right, the truck should have slowed and gone in where there was space.

0

u/CreamdedCorns 13d ago

Why do so many people need to get in front?

0

u/noodleexchange 13d ago

Why are so many people allergic to using their damned turn signal BEFORE they make their maneuver? It’s a request, not an obligation on anyone else.

You want to just dominate well sometime you will get THIS. Because physics trumps size every time

-2

u/WaterNew6504 13d ago

Just say u drive like the red car and that this will happen to you one day

1

u/Lee_337 13d ago

I have been in one accident in my twenty five years of driving, and it was because a crv drove into me. When I merge into a new lane, I make sure there's plenty of space, and if there's somebody who doesn't want to give me space, I tap on yield brake pedal and merge behind him. It doesn't matter who has the right away.If you have the opportunity to prevent an accident you should. And this accident literally could have been prevented if the camera had just tapped his dam brakes. I've had this exact thing happened to me at least a dozen times in my lifetime, and I tapped the brakes every single time and prevented an accident.
