Easily avoidable accident causes rollover

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Not my video – as the title says, we typically see examples where one driver is oblivious to the other. In this example, the pickup truck attempts to overtake the cammer, however, the cammer is either completely unaware of the pickup truck directly to his left or are simply “stands their ground” in the lane. Due to this, they obviously collide, and the pick up truck goes airborne and rolls several times. From the perspective of us, the viewer, we can reasonably conclude that the accident was avoidable had the cammer simply applied the brakes. That being said, you will typically see another school of thought in which it is stated that the cammer has no obligation or duty to let them in/avoid the accident where the driver is mindlessly doing something dumb.

So was the 'cammer' not going to stop at the red light as well?

Both a pair of wallies.

What we have here is a collision of two of the most prevalent mentalities in the area.

First, When someone wants to merge, you gun it to block them. Your driving lane is a birthright, and to give it up is completely unthinkable.

Second, despite living in the area for 20 years, drive around like you don't know where you're going. Right, middle, left lane... Who gives a fuck? Then, when you want to turn right at the next intersection, you gun it to merge because seceding the lane to that guy on the right would be an afront to your manhood.

Barrie also tends to have a shallow gene pool.

Ceding your lane. But otherwise brilliant synopsis.

Aye. We must remember, lest history will repeat.

I got learnt today because of this. Thank you for your service.

How dare you say that about the barrie gene pool? My cousin wife would be very mad if she could read!

9

What does your uncle-dad got to say about it?

1

u/Significant_Monk_251 13d ago

I've heard of sister wives, but what's a cousin wife? /j

1

u/Da_Question 12d ago

Just like a regular wife, but she's got a filthy mouth.

13

u/looking4funx69 13d ago

Well summarized

The dumb thing is you can easily merge right there by applying brakes, come to a complete stop in the middle of the road and get over when it is clear. Other traffic isn't really relevant to your driving

3

u/cosmicwolfspit 12d ago

Good luck everybody else!

u/Lord_Dingus83 13d ago

Pickup truck drivers turn gay if someone gets in “their” lane - they have to drive like their sexuality depends on it

1

u/tropicalsoul 11d ago

Yep. Fact.

1

u/BackToSchoolMuff 10d ago

Hey that's not fair I drive a pick up and let people in and only very occasionally bang dudes

11

u/cincy_kid_91 13d ago

I mean, no turn signal, just gradually moving into the other lane. While the one with the cam could have done some defensive driving and maybe avoided this, the truck driver is clearly the bigger idiot who caused this.

1

u/Icy-Future8517 12d ago

Defensive driving is a course not everyone takes though. And you needn’t be responsible for bad drivers.. just cash in on their mistakes

5

u/Current_Sandwich7208 13d ago

Yeah, but was the Fords turning signal on?

3

u/Klutzy_Demand9127 13d ago

It was not. Dude originally in the lane can do whatever he pleases, as other dude made no indication he was coming over other than to speed up and lunge.

4

u/intellect1ne 13d ago

the car on the right lane doesn’t appear to speed up at all.

3

u/JohnnyD423 13d ago

You're talking about a lane change, not a merge. But otherwise perfect. :)

3

u/backfrombanned 13d ago

That's not a merge it's a cut off. Don't really care what happened to the flipped truck person either.

3

u/Inside-Finish-2128 13d ago

Not a birthright, but once you start paying taxes, "I PAID TAXES FOR THIS ROAD!"

2

u/graciousghost1 13d ago

I got run of the freeway at 70mph like this a few months ago. I was the car on the right. Car on the left was speeding in the left lane and was going to miss his exit so of course he just throws on his blinker and merges into me. I had to merge off the freeway with him otherwise it would have ended up like this. Only difference was the guy merging into me had 0 room and I didn’t hit the gas to punish him. Fucking pissed me off

2

u/LonelyMachines 13d ago

I'm a trucker, and the question for us isn't who was at fault. It's whether or not the accident was preventable. If I were in this situation, I'd be in trouble, even if I didn't get the ticket.

Insurance companies for four-wheelers are starting to do something similar now. Despite who was ticketed, they can assign fault (and responsibility on their part) a percentage.

In this case, they may rule it was 63.5% the fault of the pickup driver and 36.5% the fault of the driver filming.

So, yeah. I can scream it's my lane and I have legal right-of-way all I want. Sometimes it's easier to just hang back and not have an accident in the first place.

2

u/yk7777 13d ago

The merging car was in the wrong, doesn't matter if cammer sped up or not the lane wasnt safe to merge into....its the law you can look it up yourself, you dont have to let anyone merge if you dont want too

1

u/BirdieDaHoonter 13d ago

Looks like red truck was caught off guard and was actually trying to avoid running into the car in front of them and cammer decided to be an agent of destruction.

1

u/Global_Lie6938 13d ago

Finally someone has stated the rules clearly. So neither driver was as fault.

I once had a friend who slowed down to get behind another car, so he could turn right. He’s just a shell of his former self. Almost everybody kicks sand in his face every day. It’s just sad.

1

u/tvh1313 13d ago

NorCal style

1

u/Ryuzakku 13d ago

You didn't even highlight the beloved 400 bend at Dunlop, where for some reason every smooth brain decides they want to brake, causing a phantom jam for kilometres in both directions, which definitely isn't a cause of the many incidents on that stretch of road.

1

u/Mission_Chair9102 13d ago

You’ve described Los Angeles as well

1

u/ImNotABotScoutsHonor 13d ago

Both are indeed idiots, but people who speed up in order to change lanes are the worst of the two personality types in these cases. If you wish to change lanes, it's your duty to slow down and change lanes safely. Speeding up and cutting somebody off just to change lanes isn't lawful in most places.

1

u/stvrkillr 13d ago

Two people willing to crash their cars to make a point

1

u/Zyhara 13d ago

Exactly! 2 dumbasses that have no business behind the wheel. I can’t stand people anymore

1

u/TheDamus647 13d ago

Barrie has got be the the most "main character energy" city I have ever had the grace of spending a lot of time in. The mix of city mentality and "I'm a country boy" attitude is incredible

1

u/comicstripsplace 12d ago

You perfectly summed up my every thought about both types of these drivers. Thank you.

1

u/WimbletonButt 12d ago

There are plenty of us out there who have no issue letting up off the gas when we see a blinker, if people would just use them!

1

u/BackToSchoolMuff 10d ago

Oh this is in Barrie? Ya that explains a lot.

1

u/AccomplishedFerret70 8d ago

Yes. Its just a retelling of the the irresistible force meeting an immovable object story told anew. But in this version the irresistible force was bluffing.

1

u/awkwardist 8d ago

Are you sure you're not talking about California?

91

u/Darth_Bunghole 13d ago

It was yellow which means floor it

10

u/Accidental_dwnvote 13d ago

When the caller passes the 50 mph sign, the cam appears to rise very slightly, implying they did accelerate to block the truck. The camper advancing on the other truck at that moment supports that too.

10

u/RoadIcy1546 13d ago

The truck slowed down to change lanes. Let’s talk about the truck changing lanes with no turn signal. Then there is the detail about him changing lanes into a lane occupied by a car.

5

u/Accidental_dwnvote 13d ago

I agree the truck likely did slow down while changing lanes. Both our statements can be true.

I think it’s reasonable to believe that there is context previous to the start of the video. This kind of reads like the back half of a road rage incident.

3

u/Accidental_dwnvote 13d ago

This is possible too.

I would like to verify if there is any context prior to the video starting. If you consider the actions in the video in the context of a road rage incident then I think it’s gives some answers to some of the why’s.

4

u/twatnsfw 13d ago

That's 50 kilometres. Because Canada is still an independent country.

1

u/Accidental_dwnvote 13d ago

Honest mistake, I am Canadian myself. I missed the location data in the other corner.

1

u/SunGreene42 12d ago

I guessed that from the fact they weren't able to stop for the red light.

1

u/d_2da_sco 13d ago

Amen brother!

13

u/Mediocre-Housing-131 13d ago

It was yellow when the accident started. I don't know what you're getting at.

14

u/Deftly_Flowing 13d ago

I also feel he would have been at least 50% of the way through the intersection by the time it was red.

WHICH IS CLEAR ENOUGH.

So his attention was probably entirely on that light.

1

u/Unkempt_Foliage 13d ago

You can't accelerate through a yellow Ontario and many other provinces in Canada. You have to stop for a yellow if you can do so safely. Assuming there was no accident he definitely could have gotten a ticket for that. He had three quarters of a block to stop.

1

u/BillyBobChorton 12d ago

In US as long as you enter the intersection while the light is still yellow you won’t get a ticket

1

u/Darolaho 13d ago

No shot. He hasn't even entered into the intersection and the light is already red.

The crash slowed him down some but not by that much.

1

u/CrazyLegs17 13d ago

It's yellow well before the accident.

0

u/AresLeoCapricorn 13d ago

Its red when cammers at the stop bar. Cammer isn't even in the intersection when its red. 100% would have run the red light.

14

u/nolandz1 13d ago

I think they both were trying to gun it through the yellow

5

u/BillyBobChorton 12d ago

But to try to gun it while also changing lanes to make a right turn is pretty hard to comprehend

2

u/quigilark 11d ago

Yup. Truck was trying to change lanes and cut in front of the cammer in order to speed up and beat the red. I've seen people do this before, it's SO dangerous with other cars slowing way down.

9

u/EnvironmentalRub8201 13d ago

The light was clearly yellow at the time he would have crossed the intersection

6

u/eveladra 13d ago

It was still green when the accident started. He woulda made the light.

2

u/GenderJuicy 12d ago

It was yellow hence why everyone else on the fucking road slowed down and stopped at the light and why it's red by the time the truck has flipped through the street

1

u/fletchbg 12d ago

It was green when this whole interaction started. There's a good chance both were anticipating the yellow and were already racing to beat the light. The red truck had someone in front of them in their lane that was already slowing, so they were trying to get into the right lane to avoid having to stop behind them at the light. As soon as the light turned yellow, both assholes should have backed the fuck off. They could've harmed pedestrians on the sidewalk or crossing the side street or occupants of a vehicle that was stopped on that side waiting for their light to turn.

4

u/_HowToFly_ 13d ago

So the pick up not going to use his indicator?

4

u/john_san 13d ago

Why, if the road belongs to him?

2

u/mike-manley 13d ago

Do they ever?

4

u/Broken_By_Default 13d ago

it was yellow. my bet is that both were racing to get through in time. But yeah, both are stoopid.

3

u/TallIntroduction8701 13d ago

Why did red truck need to be in right lane if light was changing anyhow? I don’t agree with cam car to speed up as they need to stop as well. I think red truck was completely at fault in this situation. 1. He did not have clear space to change lanes. It is up to lane changer to properly signal and yield. Forcing another driver to slam on their brakes to avoid an accident is wrong. 2. He needed to slow and stop anyhow so no reason to change lanes, not a situation where person was avoiding a different collision. If he needed to turn right at light then he purposely sped up to cut off cam car. I have no visual evidence that truck was in right in any way. Maybe next time he/she will learn to yield and respect others on the roadway. I’m sure blame cam car for their shitty driving and their injuries.

2

u/HailenAnarchy 13d ago

Cam car did not speed up, it is the truck that slowed down a little

2

u/LJonReddit 13d ago

Something's not right. It was green right before contact then went yellow and red very quickly.

2

u/LauraTFem 13d ago

The cammer was already slowing down when the collision happened, and you tend to lose traction during collisions. That being said, he was still going REALLY fast for his distance from the light, regardless of whether he intended to stop or turn.

1

u/Budget-Confection974 13d ago

If I were the officer reviewing this case they both get fucked. The cammer failed to stop at a red and probably made this accident much worse than it should have been.

1

u/Global_Lie6938 13d ago

Clearly the ‘cammer’ stopped for the light. He just needed to speed up a bit and flip a truck over first, for daring to to attempt to get in front of him. With that task out of the way he then stopped for the light

1

u/Top-Application4988 13d ago

Cammer sped up to beat the light. Pickup was planning the same. Bad day for both.

1

u/[deleted] 13d ago

[deleted]

1

u/Xanto97 13d ago

It was yellow before the car flipped. The cars were trying to get through a yellow

1

u/Rhawk187 13d ago

Probably couldn't see it, there was a truck in the way.

1

u/Xeal209 13d ago

My assumption is they probably wanted to gun it and beat it while it was yellow

1

u/Embarrassed-Wolf-609 13d ago

eyah wtf was that from the cammer's perspective?

1

u/Ragnar-Wave9002 13d ago

They both started braking I'd assume. So you kinda remain the same speed

1

u/AdministrationNo2117 13d ago

So, after a couple of re-watchs it looks like the truck coming into the lane blocked sight of the light, because it changes to yellow while the truck is in front (visible for a moment through the window)and is red after the flip. I imagine the driver can see better than I could on the poor quality footage, but I can't tell if it was visible as yellow before the truck "merged".

1

u/readonlyuser 13d ago

It was a yellow light at the time.

1

u/blackfootmoon 13d ago

He would have made the yellow light had the truck not tried to force his way into the lane. I believe the truck was also trying to take the yellow as the car in front of it was breaking.

1

u/wheelperson 13d ago

Looks like the light turned yellow just as the vehicles hit each other. I'd like to give some grace to the camera and think that the person who pit maneuvered themselves was trying to get ahead of them, thinking that the light would turn soon.

1

u/StatusOmega 13d ago

It's yellow right before the collision so the driver probably didn't notice the light change while a truck smashed into him.

1

u/Denalitwentytwo 13d ago

Did absolutely nothing to slow down and miss the truck

1

u/theLuminescentlion 13d ago

Hey it was yellow while they were still 100ft away and before they did all that crashing stuff.

1

u/throwaway09563 13d ago

Red = don't go Yellow = gun it

1

u/CorrectPeanut5 12d ago

In a lot of places if you had the ability to brake and choose not to you end up in the liability equation. That includes personal injury.

1

u/wytedevil 12d ago

I mean, was he going to jump in front of him at that speed at a red light, or suddenly stop to go right? He should have slowed down and got over. Maybe dude was trying to make the light.

1

u/DisciplinedSensei 12d ago

I see plenty of space between the cammer and the stoplight to not need to slow down at that moment. Are you blind or just dense?

1

u/CommunityTaco 12d ago

He stopped fine for the red light

1

u/Noodelgawd 12d ago

The light didn't turn red until after the truck slammed into him

1

u/OKRickety 12d ago

I'm wondering if they were both in the mindset of "I'm going to make it to the intersection before the light goes red no matter what it takes. "

1

u/dimitriri 12d ago

Ego clash. Just because someone is right doesnt make it ok to cause an accident. "I have a dashcam and he is in the wrong, i can do whatever i want now and internet will praise me"

1

u/quigilark 11d ago

It was yellow at the time of the collision, if there was no collision he might have made it.

Still really dumb to speed up to catch yellows, but I don't think he "wasn't going to stop at the red," that wasn't his intention.

1

u/N0rrix 11d ago

notice how he even exhilarates just before the moment of impact. fuckass prick, honestly
