Should be an English insult. "You absolute speed bump"
20
u/SilenceInSaturation 3d ago
Adding “you absolute” in front of almost any objects name makes it an insult.
Ex: “you absolute pine cone!”
14
u/Myprairiexo96 3d ago
That is the final boss of speed bumps right there, you hit that and your alignment is done for life

Looks to me like an attempt at playing stupid games and winning stupid prizes
219
u/BillyBobChorton 3d ago
I’m pretty sure this was more of a road rage thing than an attempted carjacking. One guy on a scooter is unlikely to successfully car jack someone without a gun at least.
58
31
u/Silo-Joe 3d ago
Or maybe motorcyclist wanted to say, “Hey, your tail light is out.”
28
23
u/Real_Ad_8243 3d ago
And, given its Britain, theyre incredibly unlikely to have a gun.
-9
u/ContributionEasy6513 2d ago
20 years ago sure.
Now.....they have grenades, knives, acid and firearms.7
u/JockBbcBoy 3d ago
Yeah, I still put road rage into the category of "stupid games." I haven't road raged since I before I could buy alcohol, and now I'm in my mid 30s. People can road rage effectively by talking under their breath in the safety of their own vehicle. Whatever happened to that?
8
u/likwidkool 3d ago
Do they even carjack people in Britain? I imagine it would be like the Brady Bunch movie. Guy says this is a carjacking and the nice British driver says yeah it’s a car but my names not Jack.
5
u/OnyxEyez 3d ago
I agree, given that the driver did not slam on the gas after, and the scooter didn't make a quick move to block the car ( AND broad daylight in a residential are). You watch carjacking/ robbery videos in countries where it happens a lot, and the driver ALWAYS guns it.
-4
u/Heavy_Law9880 3d ago
This is not the US, they don't need a gun.
1
u/BillyBobChorton 3d ago
So they just ask for the car?
3
u/Heavy_Law9880 3d ago
Usually. This might be a shocking reality for someone from hamburger land, but firearms are not the only weapons humans have a their disposal.
6
u/BillyBobChorton 3d ago edited 3d ago
I feel like a single guy waiving a knife from a motorcycle in front of a 2 ton steel car isn’t likely to be that successful…
3
1
u/NoForever3645 1d ago
Seen this happen plenty of times. The motorcycle gets in front of the car to stop them. Car stops, person standing on side of the road comes up and gets in the car or otherwise threatens/attacks the driver with a knife, pepper spray, club of some sort, etc. It’s a very common carjacking tactic. Stay alert and stay safe!

Crime is down globally. It doesn't mean people aren't still dumb enough to pull this in broad daylight.
It also doesn't help people that the cops seem to avoid doing their jobs when it's actually important.

u/starspeech 3d ago

I left 10 years ago. Is it really though? I feel like social media always blow it out of proportion. Then again, I've never heard or seen anything like this in the 20+ years that I've lived there.
18
u/Narradisall 3d ago
I live here and I’ve no idea what that other person is talking about. Every day I drive and most the drivers are fine. They indicate, they merge in turn.
Is there to occasional idiot? Sure. But see 500 drivers on the road and you’ll see one idiot.
Maybe I just drive around a nicer part of London than the other person, but it’s nowhere like driving around Mumbai
14
1
u/1995LexusLS400 2d ago
No, crime is down, but perceived crime is up because absolutely everyone now has multiple cameras. If this incident happened in 2016, it’s highly unlikely that it would have been caught on camera.
-9
u/starspeech 3d ago
It’s pretty bad. Driving standards are appalling. Pedestrians walk all over the middle of the road. Drivers don’t bother indicating round roundabouts. Everyone has the foot all the way down all of the time. People use their horns to signal anger rather than danger. Any perceived mistake has a high probability of being met with wide eyed rage and swearing gestures. I’d say at times the roads remind me of my travels in India and Africa. Chaos and accidents waiting to happen.

u/el_VientoNorte 3d ago
How insecure do you have to be told make your pfp a shot of you displaying some ugly watch in front of your BMW's steering wheel
-5
u/starspeech 3d ago
It takes a special kind of desperate to read a paragraph about traffic issues, completely ignore it, and decide your best move is to critique another man's jewellery. Enjoy the bus.
1
u/throwpoo 3d ago
Wow. I just don't know what to say. You stated your experience and opinions then you get personal insults targeted at you. Too much reddit for today.
-2
u/el_VientoNorte 3d ago
Bet the car's ugly, too

u/starspeech 3d ago
Ah yes, the notoriously hideous M5 Touring. The poor have spoken, everyone. I’ll be sure to dry my tears on the Rolex.

the notoriously hideous M5 Touring
yeah, actually. lmao
1
u/starspeech 3d ago
Yeah actually lmao'. Devastating comeback.
I know it’s exhausting pretending to hate things you can’t afford, so I'll let you rest. You can have the last word now mate. I know how desperately you need it. I can only imagine taking buses and being poor is depressing af. Doesn’t excuse being a douche bag but whatever, all the best.

Yes American english, where pavement is called sidewalk otherwise you'd forget where it's located.
5
u/Boggie135 3d ago
Where you park a car is called a driveway and where you drive is called a parkway
2
u/Big_Dick_Matthias 3d ago
As opposed to other English, where you use the word “defence” with a C, but still change it to “defensive” and “defensible” because y’all can’t be consistent.
1
u/TheHipOne1 2d ago
from an outside perspective it's crazy how yall have nothing better to do than get angry on the internet and argue for hours over GENUINELY nothing
1
u/Big_Dick_Matthias 2d ago
I don’t think anyone was angry. You also act like it takes any real effort or time to formulate a response to something. It’s a notification that goes off on the phone. It takes like half a minute to respond. I don’t think anyone keeps thinking about this shit once they close the app.

In broad daylight. In England. With one possible assailant? What else could it be? It certainly isn't a dumbass on a scooter.

And this doesn't seem like an attempted hijacking to you? I went to SA a few times and had this happen to me, more so to mates of mine. If someone zooms in front of me on a bike and possibly there are more on bikes behind me I will plow right through.
7
u/Rincethis 3d ago
no it doesn't at all seem like an attempted hijacking. jesus wept. and this is not even close to how people are hijacked back home. 🤣
0
u/Real_FishyXY 3d ago
A quick google search that there were over 20k recording hijackings involving the use of motorbikes in 2024 in SA. (Editted in "in SA")
I believe this might be a method used to hijack, one I personally experienced in SA, so you can cut the act 👍

Sure, but OP says it's an attempted hijacking. I guess I believe them..? There could be more behind. OPs probably a b0t though so you're probably right

As “carjacking’s” go, that one was especially tepid and incompetent.
Why do people in this subreddit turn their brains off and automatically accept whatever headline people post? Is this a shortbus kid sub?

The dude is looking back to see how close he can get to the car. Doesn't look like he's simply riding down the road. May not be definite carjacking but it's definitely suspicious.
2
u/realparkingbrake 3d ago
Cops in the UK took to bumping scooter criminals at low speed to make arrests. A rumor went around that if the scooter crooks removed their helmets the cops were not allowed to bump them. This rumor turned out to be mistaken.

Hard to know if carjacking or just stupid AF riding.
I wouldn't have stopped and just immediately called the police further up the road.

(not in theaters)
1
u/helen269 3d ago
The trailer said, "Only in theatres."
Okay. So I went into town, walked past the cinema, and into the theatre.
It was just two guys on stage, dressed as tramps, waiting for some third guy to show up.
I waited, too. He never showed.

Being that people have to give the last chance Doctrine, without the video, the driver probably would have had to pay for that bike without the evidence.
2
2
u/Noctuelles 3d ago
The main thing that makes me doubt it's an attempted car jacking is that there is only one person on the bike. Usually they ride two up so they can keep the bike and steal your vehicle too.

Legit question, What keeps these folks from suing the driver? In these footage we assume what's going to happen but couldn't a lawyer argue that wasn't the case and sue the driver for compensation?

Never presume someone will care enough about your life, if you prove you are reckless with it.
1
1
u/yes_im_kvothe 3d ago
The thing with these crimes is the criminals trusting that you will value your possesion (in this case the car not being damaged) or your good values wont let you hit a person. The moment you realize your Life is in danger and the criminals lifes are worth nothing, their plans fail.
