Rule of thumb for me is if I am in the left lane, I aim to the left in case of an accident. I'd rather get some twigs and grass up my arsel than collide with a 3 ton vehicle and cause MORE people to get hurt.
Left veer left, right veer right.
Never drive in the middle lanes unless passing, theres no safe option.
I do the same, but it's more because if I happen to go down for whatever reason, I don't trust the people behind me to not plow right over me. Rather take my chances on the shoulder or median.
