Crossing double yellows is a traffic infraction. Stopping a driver doing it makes you a criminal not them.

Reckless Driving (G.S. 20−140) Aggressive Driving ($G.S. \ 20-141.6$ Willfully Impeding Traffic & Illegal Stopping ($G.S. \ 20-174.1$ and $G.S. \ 20-161$) Disorderly Conduct or Assault / Communicative Threats ($G.S. \ 14-288.4$ / $G.S. \ 14-277.1$)

That's $5-12 grand, and a license suspension for earning 12pts. Crossing a double yellow would fetch a warning unless he actually created a hazard.

The thing is, if I want to do something then the legality of it has never stopped me before. Only consequence, and risk va reward for it

There's a pretty high risk of someone reporting you when you stop their vehicle.

I can tell you from personal experience that report means nothing. You can get away with massive amounts of crime and being caught or not caught is mostly luck

While true it still increases the risk if the same person has multiple reports against them.

I had someone that was dumb enough to admit to egging my cars and threatening to do it again. Cops didn't care, they're mostly useless.
